Ahmad came home from school after a miserable day. He was pushed around and made fun of by the class bully, Arshad. Ahmad was smaller in size and couldn’t match the physical abilities of Arshad. He really hated Arshad.
Later that day, when Ahmad was doing his homework, his mother asked him to accompany her as she was going out to buy some groceries. Ahmad agreed.
In the marketplace, Ahmad’s mother got busy buying the groceries and Ahmad carried them for her. After some time they entered a general store to shop for other things. Ahmad was standing near the counter when suddenly he noticed Arshad come in. He was the last person Ahmad wanted to talk to so he hid behind some shelves but kept on watching the boy.
Arshad was all alone. He chose a packet of chewing gum and took out his wallet to pay for it. Suddenly a 500 rupee note slipped out of his pocket and fell to the floor. Arshad never noticed this but Ahmad sure did. Meanwhile Arshad took his bag and walked out of the store. Ahmad picked up the note. He had finally got a chance to get his revenge.
On his way home, Ahmad thought of all the things he could do with 500 rupees and get revenge from Arshad at the same time. But his conscience kept nagging him. He had never done something so dishonest. The matter was on his mind the whole day. In the end, he decided to hand the money back to Arshad.
The next day being a holiday, he went over to Arshad’s house and knocked at the door. After quite some time Arshad opened the door and inquired, “What do you want, twerp?”
“Nothing.” Said Ahmad. “You lost your Rs500 yesterday, I picked it up to give it to you.”
Arshad couldn’t believe it. He took the note and thanked Ahmad. He also apologized to him for treating him so badly in school. He realized how wrong he had been in teasing the poor boy. From that day onwards, Arshad and Ahmad became best friends.
