September is an important month in our country’s history. On September 11, 1948, only a year after our independence, we lost our great Quaid whose leadership had made it possible for the Muslims of India to strive for an independent nation where they could lead their lives according to their cultural and religious norms.
Then in 1965, war was thrust upon this peace-loving nation, when India attacked Pakistan without warning. To the surprise of our enemy, our brave soldiers were ready not only to contain their advance but also to launch a counter-attack. After suffering heavy losses during the 17 days of war, India was forced to withdraw its forces and call for a ceasefire. The war showed the entire world that we are capable of defending our freedom. A remarkable aspect of this war was that the whole nation was ready to fight along with the armed forces. It proved that unity among our fold is essential for victory and that the task of the defenders of boundaries is made easier if they have the support of the public at large.
Today, let us pledge to ourselves that we will always stand united, no matter what, against any act of aggression against our nation. Let us show the world that we have not forgotten the teachings of our great leader and will do everything that needs to be done to save the freedom, honour and dignity of our country — the country for which thousands of people lost their lives. Stand united to salute our great Quaid and our brave soldiers! Bye! Ed
