USB device QUESTION: I have Windows XP, Service Pack 2 on Pentium 3, 996MHz with 256MB RAM. When ever I attach USB to my computer the following message appears: "USB Device Not Recognized. One of the USB device attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem click this message." how can I solve this problem? Ali aliens_xx@hotmail.com
EDITOR’S REPLY: This is one of the hardest problems to troubleshoot. However, you can try one of these fixes. Firstly, it's recommended that you make sure every one of your motherboard drivers are completely up-to-date. Visit intel.com and check to see if any new software has been released for your motherboards. In XP, after a USB port isn't used for a long while the USB driver built into the OS sets the OHCI controller to suspend. When you plug a device back in, it can sometimes fail to 'wake up' properly. This problem was supposedly fixed in SP1 but there is a related registry hack that may still be able to help.
Run regedt32.exe and navigate to; HKEY_LOCAL_Machine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Usb
Create the Usb key if it doesn't already exist. Under this key, create a new DWORD value called DisableSelectiveSuspend and give it a value of 1. Then restart the PC.
Alternatively, removing all entries relating to USB in Device Manager and all associated USB drivers will force XP into refreshing the USB driver stack.
Begin by unplugging all USB devices, then use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel to uninstall any USB driver software. Next, boot up into safe mode and go to Device Manager. Once in device manager make sure 'Show hidden devices' is checked under the View menu. Uninstall all device entries in this order;
1.
USB peripheral devices (printers etc.).
2. HID and/or Composite USB (Human Interface Devices).
3. USB Root Hub(s).
4. USB Host Controller(s) (Universal or Enhanced Host Controllers.)
Then boot back into Windows (not safe mode) and it should populate the Root Hubs and Host controllers again. Proceed to plug your USB device back in.
PC-CILLIN I am using windows XP 2007 sp3. I have PC-Cillin as an anti virus. Sometimes when I start browsing on net it shows an alarm with that message. HACKERS ATTACKED WHEN PC-CILLIN ON GUARD. SOURCE OF LAST ATTACK: 202.154.228.250 LAST ATTACK TUYPE: NetBIOS Browsing BYTES SENT: 4,025,322 BYTES RECEIVED: 32,440,352 What does it mean and how it affects my computer? What can I do to stop that? Haris m_haris_great@yahoo.com
As with most firewalls, every time they stop stray packets from hitting your system, they sound a warning. In most cases, I recommend turning these warnings off, because at max, they're just distracting. Your computer is perfectly safe, as long as you have a firewall and update your system often.
Macintosh What is Macintosh? How does it operate? I have Intel D815EA Board, Genuine Intel ~1 GHz Processor, Intel(R) 82815 Graphics Controller and 40 GB hard drive with 128MB RAM. My Question is: can I run Microsoft Windows Vista? Please suggest the hardware configuration? Muhammad Adil Khan Karachi.
1. A Macintosh is another company that produces computers. The systems that we all use are PCs whilst those produced by Apple Computers are called Macs or Macintoshes. MAC’s run on another Operating System (Like we run Windows) called MAC OS X. To learn more about MAC's visit www.apple.com.
2. You will require at least 1 GB of Memory, a P4 2 GHz System, a 128 MB Video RAM to make the most of VISTA's capability, including a 200 GB drive, since Vista is very demanding. These are optimum configurations however. VISTA will run on much less but might end up damaging your system, since it requires even more resources than XP.
Upgrading computer My computer configuration is; Intel Pentium 4, 2.40 GHz, 256MB of RAM and 40GB hard disk drive. I want to upgrade my computer, thus I put another 250GB hard disk drive 1GB of RAM. I want to ask by upgrading computer while increasing its RAM, simultaneously. Would it slow down my computer, or have any other adverse affects on it? Fahd Ahmed Karachi
With regard to computers, you're only as fast as your slowest link. This means that if you have more memory, but your processor cannot feed it fast enough, than your computer would be slow or if the FSB or Hard Disk RPM is not as fast as your Processor and RAM, than again the system would be slow, etc. In your case, you'll have to ensure that your computer's RAM, Processor, FSB, Motherboard and Hard Disk are optimized for each other, otherwise, yes! A computer can become slower. For this you'll require a technical expert who'll guide you better.
Partition I’ve got 3 partitions on hard disk: C 6.34GB FAT32, D 6.35GB NTFS, E 5.92GBFAT32. WinXp was installed on D but I formatted it. Problem initiated as the QS pointer moves but doesn’t select or open anything. I tried to shut down through CPU but warning appeared “explorer.exe is not responding”. How can I fix it? I want to install WinXp on D. At OS choice menu the name that I entered is still there. It says /system32/ hal.dll. is missing. What should I do? Adnan Aslam Lahore

Connecting USB or Mobile I have Pentium 4, 2.8 GHz Intel original, with 1024mb RAM. Whenever I try to connect a USB or mobile, a folder named "Data TAHA" is created. My username is TAHA. Is it a virus? Some times many processes pop up in the background with the same name and CPU usage becomes 100 per cent. I have used system restore once but still the problem exists.
