ISP QUESTION: Please suggest a good ISP for dial-up connection. Also, how can I increase the speed of my dail-up connection to 56Kbps? Usman Nadeem <usmanone@gmail.com>
The answer to both the questions is that it depends on the PTCL exchange in your area. It would be better if you ask the local shopkeepers regarding the ISP since they are more aware of consumer complaints.
Also, please remember that if you are getting around 7KB per second, while connected to the internet, it means that you are utilising the full 56,000kbps assigned to you by the ISP. The 7KB will vary with the number of users and the bandwidth of the ISP.
Autoexec.bat. Whenever I boot my computer, the screen displays the following message:
C:/> pause
Press any key to continue.
When I press a key, the system begins working normally. What could be the problem? Shoaib Memon <kute_memon_253@hotmail.com>
I am not sure which OS you are using, but I am guessing it is Windows98. For this, go to C:\ and check the AutoExec.bat file. To edit this file, type Command in Run to launch the MS-Dos Environment. Go To the Root, that is C:\ and then type edit C:/autoexec.bat. Check if the prompt is present there, delete the file and then save.

Ad-Aware SE Personal After performing system scan in Ad-Aware SE Personal, should I delete the critical files or should I quarantine them. What about the negligible files? Mahindhar Ghanwani <heartbreaker73@hotmil.com>
I always delete the files without creating backups. So far my OS has been safe for around three years now. As far as the negligible files are concerned, you can safely ignore them.
Linux 1. Please suggest the best Linux operating system meant for beginners.
2. Is it possible to run Windows and Linux together in the same way as Win98 and XP?
3. I have downloaded many Linux CDs live from the internet, and now I want to put them in one DVD. Is there any script which can enable me to put these bootable CDs in one DVD?
4. I want to run Play Station2 games on my PC. I downloaded some PS2 Emulators but cannot understand who to configure them with. Faisal Khadia <faisalkhadia@hotmail.com>
1. I have always preferred Mandrake rather than Red Hat since it is easy to use. The latest version is 10 and you can easily find it in the market.
2. Linux installs on a separate partition in ext 3, and so does not bother any Windows files and its GRUB utility can easily be configured to launch at Startup. This allows you to choose to boot either Linux or Windows.
3. I am not sure about the scripts, but you can use a software like “Nero Burning ROM” or Easy DVD Creator to burn bootable DVDs. Please ensure that you have a DVD burner, because a normal CD-Burner cannot burn DVDs. To run Virtual Linux OS, Please visit <http://www.geocities.com/potato.geo/bootlinuxcd.html> and <http://dc.qut.edu.au/adios/> for an understanding of how to make these kind of CDs / DVDs.
These sites have HelpMe files to configuring Emulators.
However, remember that not all PS2 files will work with these emulators and/or will be compatible with your system. So you will need to keep experimenting between these emulators and settings.
Kazaa I have WindowsXP and I use a dialup to connect to the internet. But every time I try connecting to Kazaa, the system says that it is connecting, but it never does. The internet service I use is very fast, so speed cannot be a problem. I even tried changing the firewall settings, but to no avail. Yousuf Jamil. <mostdemanded2003@hotmail.com>
Kazaa has been causing a lot of problems to its users. I think the service may have been shutdown.
If you want to use a P2P service, I suggest you download LimeWire from Google. It is much better than Kazaa, or if you want to be at the edge of P2P service, use BitLord and type “Torrents” in Google to find the files that you would like to download.
Spamware Whenever I connect to the internet, unnecessary websites keep popping up. What can I do to solve the problem? Hadia Matloob <hadiamatloob@hotmail.com>
