Windows XP
Question: I use Windows 98 and I want to install Windows XP on the system as well. What is the procedure?

Editor’s reply: Insert the WinXP CD ROM in Win98 Environment and choose Setup. Choose New Installation. In Advanced Options, select “I will choose my own partition”. The system files of WinXP will be copied to the hard disk and your computer will restart. When it reboots, you will be given two choices: Win98 or WinXP Installation. Select WinXP installation and when you get to the screen where it asks which partition you would like to install WinXP in, choose one of the multiple partitions that you have on your hard disk.
If you do not have multiple partitions, then you will require Partition Magic 8.0, a utility that will create the partitions for you. Be sure to run this utility before you run the XP installation. After you choose the partition, XP will take over automatically and you will have both the Windows on your PC.
Running games
I have a P3 with a 550MHz processor and 128MB RAM. Will this suffice if I want to play NFS Speed Underground 1 on the system?

It can pretty smoothly run on a P2. So your system should easily meet the requirements.
Gmail account
Whenever I try to create a Gmail address for myself, Google asks for my mobile phone number. But the options do not include codes from Pakistan. How can I create a Gmail address?

A Gmail email address cannot be created as such. You have to know someone who has a Gmail address and he/she can invite you to make an account.
Block-checker
I recently downloaded the software ‘Block-checker’ from the website http://block-checker.com/. Each time I add someone or talk to a new contact, a few days later a message is automatically sent to the person I am talking to, saying something like, “I know who’s blocking me on MSN because I use http://www. block-checker.com.” This is getting to be quite annoying. Is there a way to get rid of this message? I have already deleted and reinstalled my MSN Messenger.

You can try using ZoneAlarm 6.0, which can be downloaded from www.zonealarm.com. You can use the firewall to stop the program from sending any email messages.
Speedy ISP
Please recommend an ISP allowing high speeds. Also, from where I can find out about the release dates of PS2 games?

ISP speeds depend a lot on the distance of the location from where you are dialing to it, the quality of the phone lines which carry the data, and even on how technologically advanced the phone exchange in your neighbourhood is.
I suggest that you buy single hours of the four or five top ISPs and check out which one works best for you.
Regarding your second query, your local CD vendor will be the best source of information.

AGP card
I recently upgraded my computer to P4 with an Intel Celeron 2.13GHz processor and an Asrock motherboard. My hard disk is 20Gb. The problem is that games like ‘NFS underground 2’ and ‘Prince of Persia’ run very slowly if I play them with full graphics. My friend plays these games with full graphics without a 3d card and they run pretty smoothly. What could be the problem?

I suggest that you ask your friend for the specifications of his system, including whether he is using a P4 or a Celeron, amount of RAM, processor speed, the size of the hard disk, and whether he has an original Intel motherboard or not.
These games require a lot of intensive graphics processing and since the Celeron was never meant for multimedia, I suggest that you get a good AGP card to play these games.
Sending messages
I use cable net to surf the internet. Whenever I want to send an SMS to any mobile network through the net, the system gives me the following message: “Log Out. Could not connect. If you are behind the firewall or within a company local area network (LAN), you will need to open outgoing TCP connection to Port 51215 on your proxy server.” Please help me.

This is not a problem that you can fix without the help of your cable guy. These Java applications do not support proxy servers, which is how you are connecting to the internet. Ask your cable guy, and in all probability he will know the solution.
Corrupted files
