Network problems
QUESTION: My system has two LANs and a CAT5 crossover cable for my two PCs. Despite that, they are not working properly and the reply to ping command says that the destination host is unreachable. What should I do?

EDITOR’S REPLY: If the computer is telling you that the destination host is unreachable, it means you have a problem with your physical set-up. Make sure all wires are plugged in correctly and check the power on your hub/witch/router. Remember that most network adapters will have one or more status LEDs that burn at the back of your CPU. They should show a green light if connected properly. Check these as well.
Also ensure that you have manually set the IP addresses of your network adapters in order to connect. Go to the properties of ‘network neighborhood’ or ‘my network places’, select ‘use the following IP address’ and enter ‘192.168.0.1 to any number up to 254 as the IP address, and ‘255.255.255.0’ as the subnet mask.
This will put your computers in the 192.168.0 network. Now test the connection with the ping command again. This should resolve your problem.
Internet Explorer
Whenever I type http:// www.yahoo.com or www.mail.yahoo.com, the following
message is displayed on the screen:
“Do you want to save this file?
Name: Yahoo
Type: Unknown File Type, 13.9 KB
From: www.yahoo.com
Save or Cancel.”
No matter which option I choose, nothing happens. What could be wrong?

Please reinstall your IE from www.microsoft.com/downloads. You can also use Mozilla from www.mozilla.org. This should solve your problem.

PDF captures formatting information from a variety of desktop publishing applications, making it possible to send formatted documents and have them appear on the recipient’s monitor or printer as they were intended. To view a file in the PDF format, you need Adobe Acrobat Reader, a free application distributed by Adobe Systems. You can get this from www. adobe.com.
Target marketing
Whenever I connect to the internet I get the following message from the system messenger service:
“Message from system to Alert on (date and time) Stop! Windows requires immediate attention. Windows has found some critical system errors. To fix the errors please do the following:
1. Download registry repair from:
2. Install registry repair
3. Run registry repair
4. Reboot your computer
Failure to act now may lead to data loss and corruption!”
The site mentioned above provides a software, and its trial version can scan images but cannot clean them. Please suggest free registry repair software.

Psychostats works with Steam and mySql, so unfortunately there are no shortcuts to understanding the installation. However, I suggest http://www. psychostats. com/docs/ps2/ as a good place to start. Use the forum to understand anything that seems difficult.

Illegal operations
Whenever I am chatting on Yahoo messenger, a message pops up saying that “the program has performed an illegal operation” and then tells me to close it down immediately. When I quit the program, all my links and chatting windows close down as well. What is the problem?

This could either be because your computer is too slow to run Yahoo Messenger properly, or your Yahoo or Windows files have become corrupted. I suggest that you reinstall Yahoo Messenger. If that does not work, reinstall Windows.
Google talk
I recently downloaded Google Talk, but now I do not know how to register for a Google account. What should I do?

Google accounts cannot be ‘Signed Up’ for. You have to know someone who has a Google account and ask him or her to send you an invitation.
Orkut users can also sign up for a Google account. If you are a member, then you can sign up from within Orkut only.
