QUESTION: WE GOT a CD made which deals with medical science. Can you tell us of a technique, or a software, to protect this invaluable CD?

ANSWER: There are a number of software in the market that can be used to protect your CD from illegal copying. Examples of such software are StarForce, DiscLock and SafeDisc.
There are several other ways to protect your CD from being copied. I suggest that you visit http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_protections.shtml and http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_utils.shtml for more information on the subject.
Buying computer
I want to buy an Intel Pentium IV original computer for high speed and involved graphics use. What type of system should I get?

By high graphics, do you mean Video Editing, Adobe Photoshop/Freehand for ads/ Billboards Designs, Maya 3D animation, Rendering help or GamePlaying? Each of these areas has its own requirements. Therefore, until you furnish your request fully and define the nature of your work better, I can only provide a generic answer.
If you really want a PC, I would suggest that you go for a Dual Processor with at least 1GB RAM on your system. Try either AMD Athalons or Intel P4s HyperThreading. A 160GB hard disk is required as well as a higher-end VGA Graphics Accelerator like ‘Radeon 9800 All in One Wonder’ or the High End GeForce 6000 Series Cards.
For serious graphics, there’s Matrox for Video Editing as well as other High End Graphics cards. For your requirements, however, I recommend that you go for a G4 or an Apply G5 computer (if you can afford them). The cost would almost be the same as a PC, yet the G5 is far more suited towards Multimedia and graphics than any PC. It all depends on what you mean by high graphics, though.

Secret partition
I have a P3 with a 20GB hard drive. I have three partitions, but I want an additional one that should be secret. Can you help?

Sheikhupura.
For this I suggest that you use Partition Magic 8.0. It has an option to hide an entire partition. However, if it’s just a certain folder you want to hide, you can use ‘FolderGuard 7.0’ (from www.download.com or www.folderguard.com). Do read the ReadMe files to find out how to use it.
Fighting piracy
Is there a website from which one may order original PC-CD games online? Many pirated cds are available in the market. Any solutions?

For original CDs, I suggest that you buy from international retailers like Amazon.com or ebay.com. Both are willing to send goods to Pakistan. However, please do remember that customs will be charged separately.
For combating piracy, I believe that it’s a personal decision to pay to the deserving organization and I applaud your efforts towards this. The problem has truly touched alarming proportions.
Multiple problems
I recently installed Windows XP. Since them I am having problems with the colours of my monitor. The colours suddenly turn peculiar, for instance, reds turn into maroons. Also, while typing the words suddenly turn into capitals, depriving me of the option to use numbers from the number pad. It seems as if the shift key is activated somehow. I cannot send an Instant Message on MSN because every time I hit the ‘Enter’ key or click at the ‘Send’ icon nothing happens. Only the cursor moves to the next line. Please help me out.

You have not mentioned your system specs, so it’s hard to diagnose the problem. However, to venture a guess, your system resources do not meet the minimum demanded by XP — a 32MB VGA card and at least 128MB RAM with a 733Mhz processor PIII with at least 500MB free space after installation on your root drive. If your hardware does not meet the above requirements, then I suggest that you revert back to Win98.
However, if your hardware is meeting the above requirements, then the problem may be due to corrupted system files or hardware error. In either case, I recommend that you show your computer to a technician.
Messaging problem
I am using Windows 2000 Professional on an AMD 400MGHz PC. Whenever I try to sign in to MSN Messenger the following message appears: “msnmsg.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program.”
After the computer is reset, the problem persists. I am also unable to browse with Internet Explorer 6, but browsing works fine with Mozilla Firefox 1.4. I have scanned my system using the updated version of an antivirus package, but the problem still exists. Please tell me how to fix the problem.
