Low virtual memory

1. I have a P4 (Intel Celeron Family) with 128MB RAM, 2.00GHz Processor and a 40 GB hard disk. I run Windows XP (SP 1) on my PC. But Windows keeps telling me that my system’s virtual memory is too low. How I can fix this problem? Also, please recommend a software or website through which I can create my own website.

2. How I can upload my hard disk data to any software or website? Plus, recommend a software to change my Windows XP’s taskbar?

1. In WinXP, right click My Computer, and select Properties. Go to the Advanced tab and under Performance, click Settings. Once there, click the Advanced tab.

You will find an option at the bottom to change your virtual memory. Select Change and increase it.

Ensure that you have at least 500MB free on your local hard disk. Buying more memory will also help. Regarding a software to create your own website, my personal favourite is Dreamweaver.

2. You will have to buy space online. Then you can transfer your files. You can visit www.mywebfolder.com for more information. As for Window XP’s taskbar you could visit http://www.stardock.com /products/objectdock /or www. mobydock. com for options on changing your taskbar.

Reinstalling drivers

I have a genuine Intel PIV Motherboard, 2.26GB processor, 80GB HDD and 256MB RAM. Initially I had WinXP 2004 installed on it, but then I formatted my hard disk and repartitioned it. When I installed Windows 98, the installation went smoothly but it didn’t detect my audio hardware as well as modem. I have tried reinstalling the drivers for both of them, but this doesn’t seem to help either.

I suggest you reinstall the drivers of your Motherboard. Use the CD that comes with the Motherboard and install that. This would hopefully fix the problem.

Thermal heating

1. Recently, my system (Intel D845GVSR motherboard and Intel P4 2.26 GHZ processor) has started to freeze. Sometimes it shuts down saying that it was due to thermal heating.

2. When I connect to internet in Win98, some content adviser pops up and does not let me open Mcafee. It also does not let me open webpages through IE.

1. All systems using boxed processors require thermal management which includes two major elements: a heatsink properly mounted to the processor, and effective airflow through the system chassis. The ultimate goal of thermal management is to keep the processor at or below its maximum operating temperature.

It is the responsibility of the system integrator to ensure adequate system airflow. In all likelihood, your system fan might be causing the problem. Get it checked from a proper technician.

2. Turn ‘Content Adviser’ off from IE. Follow these steps to do that:

Go to Tools > Options. Then press the Content tab. Under Content Adviser, go into Settings < General. You can either click on ‘Users can see sites that have no ratings’ or you can turn the Content Adviser off by unchecking ‘Supervisor can type... content’ or deleting the password. This should do the trick.

Website addresses

I need the addresses of some websites featuring the Holy Quran? Also, how can I create a password in my files in windows 98?
Bilal Khan
bilal_faust@yahoo.com

Type ‘Holy Quran’ in Google. You’ll find hundreds of websites. Regarding the second query, get the software FolderGuard (www.download.com) and read the ReadMe file on how to use it. It can protect both your hard disk and your individual files.

Errors

Whenever I start my computer and connect to the net the system tells me that a fatal exception ‘0D’ has occurred at ‘0246: 015F47FB’. The application then gets terminated. Is my computer infected with some virus because it also restarts or shuts down by itself? Sometimes it freezes when I’m working online.

Fatal Exception Errors are codes returned by programs when “invalid data or code” is activated. They can be caused by an instruction in the program that has performed an “illegal” operation. “Illegal” means performing an operation which is not allowed by the program or one that the program does not know how to handle.

They can also be caused by device drivers or applications, like video drivers, which are not properly de-bugged. In such cases it’s best to look at the troubleshooting or support section of the device manufacturer and see if the problem is mentioned. There could a newer driver that you can download.

You can also read more about Exception Errors on the Microsoft site http://support. microsoft. com/support/kb/articles/q150/3/ 14.asp You may also search for specific errors at http://www. techadvice.com/w98/E/ Exception_ errors. htm.
