Multi messenger for Yahoo

I TRIED to install “Yahoo Gold”, a multi-messenger for Yahoo! However, because of a few corrupt files, it fails to function. Is there is a website from where I can install a complete and uncorrupted version of this messenger?

Sana Mirza

Editor’s reply: Try downloading it from

Messenger password

How can a saved password be removed from MSN Messenger 6.2 in WindowsXP? For some reason, it has been saved and automatically runs my messenger when I log on to the internet. I have tried unchecking it from the options but it doesn’t work. Please help.

Moomal

Editor’s reply: Please go to the options and from there uncheck “automatically login when I connect to the internet” and also “start when Windows start.” This will ensure that MSN doesn’t automatically sign you in.

Secondly, upgrade to MSN 7.0. This time around, when your password is required, don’t check “automatically save password” when you log in. This will remove your password.

Gaming problems

I want games to run seamlessly and smoothly on my computer. Should I upgrade my RAM or processor? Which is more effective?

Raafi Gul

Hyderabad

Editor’s reply: If anything, I think you should get a Graphics Accelerator. That’s the best way to increase the speed of your gameplay. However, given the choice, more memory is usually good for games, rather than having a faster processor.

Bad sectors

My hard disk seems to have developed around eight bad sectors. Is there any way to remove these? Also tell me how to install Windows98 on my C:\ drive?

Iqbal Ather

Editor’s reply: When a hard disk develops bad sectors, it’s best to get it replaced. Sooner or later, your drive will crash and all of your data will be wiped out. As the hard disk is used over time, it develops these sectors.

This is why you must change your hard disk before it starts losing data. There is really no way to get rid of bad sectors. You may try doing low-level formatting, but that is only a temporary solution and will still cause you trouble. Thus, it’s best if you purchase a new hard disk.

As for your second query, just insert a bootable CD to your computer and enter Setup at the prompt. The wizard will help you out from there.

USB not working

When ever I try to connect Nokia 6820 to my computer using the USB data cable with the help of Nokia PC Suite 5.65 as an interface software,I receive the following error message: “USB device not recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it.” How can I fix it?

Amyn

Editor’s reply: Your installed driver is either corrupt or is missing. Please reinstall the driver that comes with Nokia’s cable CD or download it from .
