Is it possible for one to remove or change WinXP Administrator password if the original password is forgotten? Can this be done by altering hardware?

Editor’s reply: A change of hardware or resetting hardware will not have any affect on the password. The easiest way to access WinXP passwords is to use third party password cracking tools. These free Windows password-cracking tools are usually Linux boot disks that have NT file system drivers and software that will read the registry and rewrite the password hashes for any account including the Administrators. This process requires physical access to the console and an available floppy drive but it works like a charm. Resetting a user’s or administrator’s password on Windows XP might cause data loss, especially EFS-encrypted files and saved passwords from within Internet Explorer.

eviously I used to use MSN voice chat on Windows98 operating system but after sometime due to some corrupt system files I had to reinstall the OS and now I just can’t seem to run voice chat. Can you tell me what the problem could be?

Editor’s reply: This problem could be due to various reasons. First, make sure your internet access support voice chat? Secondly, check if you have any firewall such as Zone Alarm installed, and enabled on your system. Firewalls usually cause problem with voice feature. Chat software may require server rights in order to accept incoming connections. So you have to configure firewall program to allow chat software access and server rights to the Internet Zone, then these applications will function as they normally would. If you can’t do uninstall it and make sure that there are not remnants still loading which could interfere with MSN Messenger. It is also possible that since you reinstalled OS, there is likelihood that some of the corrupt system files are still there. You could also try to format your drive and install fresh operating system.
Connecting other hard drive

Editor’s reply: Your questions are answered below in the same order as you mentioned:
1. For this you will have to have some advanced knowledge of hardware. Please ensure that you know what you’re doing. First, inspect your friend’s hard disk at the back and you’ll find 4 wire prongs, one with a jumper. Jumpers on hard drives are usually tiny little sliders (often black) that slip over two wire prongy things to connect them. They can usually be found on the back or side of a hard-drive casing. Depending which prongy pair you slide a jumper over often determines how a piece of hardware is configured. When you install two drives, you have to set one as a master drive and the other as a slave. The computer looks for the operating system on the master drive and uses the slave as a secondary drive that behaves as storage. Then you have to add the second hard drive as a Slave Drive, so set the jumpers on the back of the hard drive to Slave (by removing the jumper completely using your fingernails), and mount it in the case. Attach it to the middle connector on the IDE ribbon cable going to your Master hard drive.
Make sure you configure the BIOS to Auto Detect for the new hard drive. Refer to your motherboard manual or the computer manufacturer for details. However, the F2 key usually works on boot. Configure the hard drive from the BIOS menu. Finally, boot your system. If all settings are correct, your computer will now display the partitions on your friend’s drive.
2. Get hold of a Kazaa Lite version and install that.
Music bitrate
Most of the streaming music sites host very light files played in some kbps. What does kbps mean? Also tell me how can I reduce the size of heavy files? Is there any software available for it?

Editor’s reply: The size of the file size of the song depends on the bitrate that you select. Kbps stands for Kilobits per second which is a unit for measuring speed of data transfer. For instance, for a 500Kb file size, you will have to specify a bitrate of 48Kbps. This however will give you a telephone quality sound. Most songs that you listen to are in 128Kbps format (close to CD quality) whilst the best ones are recorded at 192Kbps plus. The file size also depends on the type of recording you select. Lossless recording would give the best sound, but would produce very heavy file sizes, the next heaviest would be produced by Variable rate, whilst the Fixed rate would produce the smallest file sizes.
