Chinese academy of sciences signs MoUs with GIKI, Nust

THE Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Sciences (GSCAS), Beijing, has signed two memorandums of understanding (MoU) with two leading institutes of the country to build academic excellence and exchange students and researchers in a broader range for achieving academic excellence in the field of engineering sciences.
The Chinese is one of the distinguished academic institutions, established about four decade back. At present more than 22,000 students are enrolled at GSCAS in various disciplines, ranging from engineering, sciences and technology, medicines to literature and linguistics.
The Chinese delegation comprised vice-president of GSCAS Dr Shi Zhuang Ma and director foreign affairs of the school Shidi Zhang have visited the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Science and Technology on April 18-19 and inked an MoU in order to promote cooperation between the two institutes in the field of engineering sciences.
The MoU was signed by the rector of GIK institute Prof Dr Muhammad Naseer Khan and Prof Dr Shi Zhuang Ma vice-president of Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Sciences when the later along with Shidi Zhang director of foreign affairs of the Chinese academy visit on April 19.
According to the MoU the institute said the two institutions will encourage direct contact and co-operations between their faculty and administrative staff, departments and research institutions.
The main points of MoU he said are: the two institutes would exchange visits of students for study and research, visit by exchange of staff for research, teaching and discussion and exchange of information, materials and research publications. Both parties agreed that that all financial arrangements will have to be negotiated and will depend on the availability of funds. Specific details for the implementation of these activities will be developed mutually for specific projects.
If the agreement remains dormant for three consecutive years it will be deemed to have lapsed said spokesman of the GIK Institute, adding that where the Agreement continues active the two institutions could review it after five years from the date hereof.
However, he said, it may be terminated at any time by mutual consent or by nine months’ notice in writing by either party.
The other MoU was signed with the National University of Science and Technology on April 23 when the GSCAS delegation visited there. The agreement is expected to lead to mutually beneficial research collaboration between the two institutions.
They held wide-ranging talks with the NUST management and exchanged views about the areas where the two institutes could exchange visits and undertake joint research. To provide opportunities to NUST students to pursue their studies at GSCAS were also discussed.
