My system has developed a problem whereby it creates “folder.htt” files automatically in all my folders. Tell me how can I remove these files. It has also decreased performance of Internet Explorer. JAGDESH VASVANI jk_vasvani@hotmail.com Editor replies: It is likely that your system is infected with virus known as HTML.Redlof.A. This virus enables yours system’s “View As Web Page” option, which result in creating this problem. To remove it, scan your computer thoroughly, using an updated antivirus software. If this doesn’t work, you will have to manually remove it by following these steps one by one: 1. Go to Start>Find, search for files containing the text “KJ_Start()”. If you find them, rename all of them to “.VIR” 2. Replace C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared \Stationery\blank.htm with a clean one ! 3. Rename or delete Folder.htt and Desktop.ini. 4. Start MSCONFIG; uncheck the entry “Kernel32” linked to the file kernel.dll (or kernel32.dll) but make sure it isn’t operating systems) to stop it from loading at startup. 5. Boot to Real Mode MSDOS. CD to the Web directory and delete Folder.htt and desktop.ini 6. Copy C:\WinPath\Web\kjwall.gif as Folder.htt and C:\WinPath\System32\kjwall.gif as Desktop.ini 7. Delete kernel.dll from C:\WinPath\System\kernel.dll 8. Now you can do the following from Windows: Open the files you had renamed .VIR in any text editor like Notepad and search for the line(s). <!—Incase Neworder board renders the HTML>
<!—Start Portions of virus code, search for the following in infected files—>

<!—End Portions of virus code, end searching till here.Typically this should be at the very end of the infected file —>
I want to know what “cookies” are. My problem is that when I connect MSN Chat from msn.com, it gives the error “Your Web browser options are currently set to disable cookies. To use .NET Passport, you must enable cookies.” How can I enable these cookies? MOHAMMED SAAD saad_pk9@hotmail.com Editor replies: A “cookie” is a file planted on your hard disk by websites which you access regularly, such as Hotmail or Yahoo, and these sites store certain vital information in order to recognize your machine whenever it tries to access it. A cookie contains personal information about users which is used to develop target audiences for internet advertising. You can enable a cookie on your machine by opening your Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options. On the Privacy tab, move the slider up for a higher level of privacy or down for a lower level of privacy. The lowest level will allow all the cookies to be saved.
