I AM having a problem with my Yahoo Messenger. Although the e-mail is working just fine, I am unable to log onto Yahoo Messenger. Would you please tell me what is the problem and how can I solve it? MAZIA ISLAM
Editor replies: If Yahoo Messenger is not connecting to your server, it could be due to several reasons. One of them could be using older version of Internet Explorer. Make sure you have IE’s version 4.1 or above installed on your machine. Yahoo Messenger uses files from Internet Explorer to run. So you should upgrade your IE’s version to 5.5. You can download it from the following site: .
If your IE version is just fine then try following steps: Open the “Login” menu in Messenger; click on “Preferences,” then click on the “Connection” tab. Here click on “No network detection,” then hit the OK. Messenger will ask you if you want to try to log on with your new proxy settings. Click the Yes button. When prompted, enter your ID and password, then hit the “Login” button.
If that doesn’t work, follow these steps: Go to the “Login” menu, then to “Preferences,” click on the “Connection.” Here click on “Firewall with no proxies,” then hit the OK. Messenger will ask you if you want to try to log on with your new proxy settings. Click the Yes button. When prompted, enter your ID and password, then hit the Login button. The above configuration will work in almost any situation. However, it won’t allow you to use the voice chat feature.
If neither of the above options work, you’re probably behind a firewall or proxy server that requires you to enter its address. Try these steps: Following the steps from above till you reach “Connection” tab. Click on “Use proxies.” Here you can enter your firewall and/or proxy server’s address and port number. If you don’t know the configurations, call for ISP support to determine the correct firewall and proxy settings. Hope these work for you.
Viruses, deletions and restores!
IS blocking the sender who had sent you the virus which was mentioned in the article “A malicious worm hits .gov.pk” sufficient or should i go through the whole process to get rid of the virus. Also tell me is it possible to restore deleted items ?

Editor replies: If you encountered this virus and feel that it resides on your machine, then blocking the address now would be useless now. The best bet is to just run the updated application of your antivirus application, and purge your computer of this worm.
Yes, there is a remote possibility that you get your deleted stuff back. Depending on when you deleted your data, and certainly the time frame counts in this case. However, you could always give it try by using a utility, such as Easy Recovery and Lost n Found.
