Women’s wear now comprises well-structured shirts, cropped pants, high heels with pointed toes, pastel coloured head bands and funky hairdos
The woman of today is no longer a fashion slave. She’s hip, chic and suave and for her it is no longer the done thing to follow fashion slavishly ––– a sharp contrast to the highly a la mode `70s and `80s. The phobia of being underdressed is being displaced by the fear of overdressing and fashion has become a rich blend of the latest trends and exclusive ideas which vary person to person in terms of one’s body structure.
The `80s fashion, however, still remains in style, with a gradual shift into the more `90s style clothing. With utmost emphasis on haute couture –– a French expression for ‘high sewing’ or ‘high dressmaking’ referring to the creation of exclusive custom-fitted fashions –– women’s wear now comprises well-structured shirts, cropped pants, high heels with pointed toes, pastel coloured head bands and funky hairdos.
Capri pants ––– often just called capris, pedal-pushers or cropped pants ––– are a style of trousers that were initially designed to end near the mid-calf or just below the calf. During the 21st century, however, the length of the pants has been shortened to just below the knee in various designs. With big flowery patterns or striped, plain or textured, made of pastel coloured khakis or bright striking jamawar, cropped pants are in vogue these days, in formal as well as in casual wear. They go with nearly everything from funky T-shirts to formal silk shirts to our native kameez and kurtis.
They, however, go best with colourful, shorter well-structured shirts. Something either with a tonal striped pattern, styled with elasticised cap sleeves, a ruffle-edged eyelet yoke and a satin placket or a more formal structured design with a low V-neckline and long bell-sleeves.
However, with winter fast approaching, the dressing style is shifting focus on darker colours like hot pink, breezy violet, bold blue, not forgetting the sizzling reds and classy blacks with louder tones. As for pastels, chalk blue, orange, a more subtle yellow and white are the most popular colours this season creating a more refined look.
Aviator and oversized round, oval or square shaped sunglasses have also become popular, especially those with a dark coloured, thick rim. Head and wrist bands have also made a comeback for they go rather well with the structured look. Commonly seen hair styles include straight hair with bangs. The hair colours for the season are black, red, brown or plum. The big hair look has also been a hit this fall.
Pointed toe classic high heel shoes give the final touch to the whole refined and structured look. With or without ankle straps, pointed toes look very classy and fashionable. They go well with cropped pants and also add a couple of inches to the height, adding to the refined look of the season. The fact remains that in Pakistan today, fashion is not something that exists in dresses only; it has. It has to do a lot with new creative ideas, the way one carries oneself and the image one wants to portray.
