Multi-cultural colours in rich, dynamic shades have become the latest trend in home furnishing, writes Sahar Majid
Colours possess amazing power; a correctly applied colour scheme can turn a large room with a high ceiling into a warm cozy one. Globalisation has brought the world into our living rooms and along with it modern interiors. Multi-cultural colours in rich, dynamic shades are the latest trends in home colours. Whether it's a bedroom awash in purple, a brown living room set off by a contrasting accent wall or a kitchen painted orange, bright colours are the flavour of the year.
Warm pastels, especially in aqua and blue family are quite popular. There is also a growing trend of using darker, more sophisticated colours accented by mid-tones. Various shades of fresh orange are also in vogue these days.
“We are also seeing a trend towards earthy natural look, inspired by colours from things found in nature like stones, trees, bamboo, terracotta clay and seashells,” says Madeeha Mansoor, a colour consultant. “Kitchens and bathrooms are also getting a fresh colour treatment. This year's kitchen and bathroom colours cover greys, pale greens, icy blues and dusty lavenders.”
When creating a colour scheme for the whole house, let the trends in colour be your guide; but remain true to what you are most comfortable with. “Take a look at the new colours coming out this year, and determine if you can live with them on a daily basis,” advises the colour expert. By shifting the colours slightly, combining different hues, one can certainly make some colours more acceptable and sophisticated.
Colour can be a powerful ingredient to create a fashionable, comfortable and open styled home interior without investing a fortune. With new choices available, any dull room can be given an interesting ambience with just the right dash.
