Fresh breath mints, mouth sprays, and chewing gums that refresh one’s mouth and breath are becoming a fast growing trend amongst people of all age groups, writes Amena Jafri
The recent drive towards achieving higher personal hygiene standards is progressing beyond belief. The same people who virtually never bothered cleaning their mouths for the benefit of other people’s comfort or for that matter, their own, are now becoming more self conscious than ever. Consequently, a large collection of fresh breath mints, various chewing gums, mouth sprays, and a few other such tic tacs have found their way on almost every shop’s racks. They come in various flavours, ranging from different fruits, to chocolates and mints. Most popular are the sugar free ones that promise zero calories while assuring their lasting effect on suppressing bad breath.
The latest encouragement on this front is the recent research that chewing gum reduces one’s double chin, which has become a major problem — especially for middle aged people. Hence surprisingly, one can now find people; particularly women, chewing gum and carrying spare ones in their purses.
But whatever the driving force may be, fresh breath mints, mouth sprays, and chewing gums that refresh one’s mouth and breath are becoming a fast growing trend amongst people of all age groups. They have become sort of a fashion statement and using them has become a stylish thing.
A word of caution though; excessing use of everything can also have dire consequences. Too much chewing can hurt the jaws and teeth, specially if you have fillings. Also, the overuse of minty things can upset the workings of the stomach. So be moderate in everything you do. What is helpful is brushing the teeth carefully before going to sleep and eating a proper diet. But for now we can be assured of fresh breath from everyone we meet…… er maybe almost everyone and you have to admit that is is nice to smell.
