Gone are the days when long and flowing hair was considered stylish for young men. These days, however, anyone with long and unkempt hair gets funny looks –– times change! Even if a person does sport long hair he has to make sure that it’s gelled back neatly.
The trendy look nowadays is all about having short and spiky hair that is pulled upwards with a thick application of gel. More daring ones go as far as streaking their spikes in different hues and shades.
If one plans to sport this kind of haircut a few things should be kept in mind. First of all, keep the length of the hair according to the hair type, for instance, people with wavy and rough hair should keep the hair length very short, just to the point where they are able to pull the hair upwards, because with such hair texture hair tends to fall back and one cannot get the proper spiky look. Also, for such kind of hair it’s always better to pull it upwards from the front only while the rest of the hair is combed neatly.
Men with silky hair can sport a longer length as the smooth hair texture enables the spikes to stay in one place and not get twisted.
It’s also a very common sight in the salons these days to see metrosexuals getting their spikes streaked. The most common colour is blonde while maroon, grey and even green and blue have also been tried and tested by the very bold.
The colours should be chosen very carefully because although coloured streaks are the latest fad these days, some have ended up with rather horrible results.
If you are not interested in sporting spikes, going for a short, neat haircut is always an option as this look is also en vogue. The cut is simple and doesn’t need much styling. All one needs to do is apply some gel and leave the hair as it is. However, for those who want style but do not want to put in a lot of effort, long sideburns are an answer; they require minimum maintenance as well as complement short haircuts.
