This season it’ s all about looking glamorous with sparkling and shimmering accessories to boost the style, writes Ayesha Akif

Britney Spears and straight legged jeans, matt lipsticks and long-strapped boring brown hand-bags have become history now. This season it’s all about looking glamorous with sparkling and shimmering accessories. Anything and everything from make-up to clothes, purses and footwear, all that shines and dazzles comprises the right look.

While the young women opt for sequined sandals and sassy tops, the middle-aged group can put sequins on lush lawn suits or khaddi clothes. The shops and bazaars gleefully exhibit chappals, clothes, jewellery and other accessories loaded with sequins, gems, stones and tiny mirrors.

Make-up

For daytime make-up, apply normal concealer and face powder and keep the look simple with a blend of clear lip-gloss or a slight shade of pink or plum. Don’t over-do the eyes for sunlight hours, as the best waterproof mascara and eyeliner won’t tolerate the blazing sun. For evenings, apply lipstick in burgundy or even red (it’s classic), and top it up with gloss. Go all the way with eyes making use of flickering eye shadow in gray, pink, tan or bronze to complement the kajal and thick mascara. It gives a stunning look.

Shoes

If you haven’t hit the shops to renew your footwear this summer, do it now. It’s been a long time now since sequined sandals/slippers became popular but it looks like they’re here to stay. High-heeled sandals decorated with silver/gold/hot pink sequins look fabulous for the evening outings. Also, there’s a variety of slippers designed with fake gems, stones and crystals to go with colourful lawn wardrobe. They even go well with worn-out jeans. So pamper your feet overnight with a relaxing pedicure, paint your toe-nails in a crazy colour and slip in a pair of dazzling slippers.

Handbags

There is no replacing the classic leather purse but there’s no missing out on the not-so-new range of fabric hangbags either. Made out of strong cloth, these bags glimmer with beads, mirrors, seashells, buttons and sequins! They’re pricey at known stores but after a little search, a good bargain is not hard to find.

Accessories

If you don’t accessorise properly, even the best clothes can look bland. Belts with jeans, dangling earrings, bracelets, scrunches, clips, catchers –– you name it and they are available. Accessories are attractive to females of all age groups. If you opt for plain clothes with classic colours like gray, beige or turquoise lift up your mood by wearing elaborate earrings or adjusting funky clips in a nice hairdo. And, of course, you’re never going to wear all of this together. If you want to totally show off your clothes keep your jewellery and make-up simple. Who wants to look like a Christmas tree anyway?
