Driving: Pakistani style by Sibtain Naqvi (TR, March 24-30) is a thought-provoking analysis in good humour about the way we drive in Pakistan.
All drivers should behave responsibly res-pecting the right of pedestrians just as much as they respect their own right to drive their vehicles.
Another aspect which needs immediate attention by the transport authorities is the issue of the fitness of the vehicles plying on the roads.
With the ever increasing number of accidents resulting in the loss of lives and burning of vehicles by angry mobs, improvements and revamping of rules is required on all fronts.

Sibtain Naqvi’s article hit the nail on the spot. I can completely relate to his opinions on a driver’s mind-set in Karachi. What is particularly annoying is to see people using short-cuts on roundabouts and the traffic constables totally ignoring these people.
I’m sure these drivers chose the easy way out and skipped their theory classes before learning how to drive. It may sound like a cliché, but no one can bring a change in our traffic system until we ourselves learn to be patient.
