Meat on the menu
Considering the down-to-earth prices, Shake & Steak comes across as a real sizzler on the eating-out front. Where else can you land a burger with fries, cole slaw and a drink on the side for well under a hundred bucks and that, too, inclusive of tax and on Karachi’s Zamzama Boulevard?
But that’s not all as far as their reputation goes. They offer the juiciest, thickest and the most lip-smacking steaks in the whole town. In fact, steaks are their speciality and there’s a huge range to choose from — Hawaiian, Steak of your Choice, Twin Towers, Inhouse Speciality and Sicilian Steak. The sauce is easily the highlight of each of these gastronomical delights, giving it the much-needed zing that is usually amiss in most cases.
The huge variety of notorious S&S fruity shakes also make a killing in the calorie department, while going easy on the wallet. Here, too, Very Very Strawberry, Banana Blast, Brownie Shake and Caramel Shake are just a few items on the menu that put your dietary resolve to the ultimate test.
Mexican and a variety of other treats also make it to the menu card here, with the special S&S novelty credit going to Gyro, a speciality of the house and a mouthwatering package comprising thick beef slices served on pita bread and topped with olives, tomatoes, onions and mustard.
Other than the pizzas, a variety of fries including Garlic Fries and Sweet ‘n’ Sour Fries are also definitely worth a try. Another very appetizing item on the menu are the homemade ice creams at ridiculously moderate prices. But its the Smart Deals that really make a killing. Mostly comprising combos, these deals, according to the chef, are extremely popular among school and college-going kids, as well as office personnel out to grab a quick, light snack during their lunch break, and offer a wide variety of burgers, shakes, steaks, gyros and hotdogs - again all at very affordable prices.
Wajahat and Salman are the two brothers and entrepreneurs who started off with Shake & Steak late last year with the resolve to provide good food, authentic taste and unbeatable prices. A computer-science graduate, Wajahat got his calling while running a desi eatery in the States.
He has also personally overseen the S&S menu which currently boasts 106 items, and even dons the apron in case there is a rush order. How’s that for having a man in the kitchen!
His younger sibling, Salman, currently studying dentistry, is the brains behind the venture. Together, they have made a success story out of Shake & Steak whose knock-out clientele include the likes of celebrities such as Sheikh Aamir Hasan, Faakhir, Rizwan Beyg and lots more. Currently, they are also offering free delivery service in and around Zamzama, as well as I.I. Chundrigar Road. As these young entrepreneurs say: “No order is too big or no challenge too small for us. We’re in it all the way!” Way to go, guys.
