Humming along

By Shahzeb Shaikh

Gone are the days when one had no option but to stick to PTV for entertainment purposes. Since the inception of new private TV channels, entertainment options have grown manifold. Although still in its infancy, Hum TV has been a success. Recently, a dinner was hosted in Karachi by the channel to celebrate the launch of its new season programmes at a local hotel.

The function was crowded with big names from the showbiz industry such as film star Nadeem, actors Nauman Ejaz, Aijazz Aslam, Faisal Qureshi, Nabeel, Mishi Khan, Zhalay Sarhadi, Ayesha Sana, singer Faakhir, former Information Minister Javed Jabbar, writer Razia Butt and many others. Each artiste received a red carpet welcome from Yasmin Kirmani, as they expressed their feelings about the event.

The ambience was quite dark and appealing, while the tables were decorated with candles, making the atmosphere very dreamy. A huge screen was also set up, which showed promos of new serials, as well as previously aired ones such as Mere Pass, Lahasil, Shiddat and Bebaak. The launch show began at 9.30pm, two hours after the scheduled time, with a live performance on an upbeat dance track by Wahab Shah along with a female dancer. The couple impressed everyone with their killer moves and received a good response.

The host opened the evening with an announcement that the channel had bought the rights of famous novelist Razia Butt’s eight novels, one of which, ‘Najia,’ has been shot in Mexico

The host opened the evening with an announcement that the channel had bought the rights of famous novelist Razia Butt’s eight novels, one of which, Najia, has been shot in Mexico. The announcement was followed by a live performance from one of the serial’s scenes by the lead characters, Zhalay Sarhadi and Fahad. Receiving great applause on the performance, Zhalay informed that “my character is that of a selfish wife who leaves her husband.” Fahad congratulated the channel and said “it is a performance based serial. My character struggles to get Najia back.”

Next up, veteran Seemi Raheel was invited on stage and said merrily, “I have been in the industry for three decades now, but this is my first serial in Karachi. I play the character of Mrs D’Souza, the Christian housekeeper.”

After another live performance from Najia, Kazim and Juggun followed, showing off their acting skills in a scene borrowed from a new serial, Man-o-Salwa, which has been shot in Australia. The star cast of the serial includes Noman Ejaz, Resham, Ayesha Sana and Faisal Qureshi.

Wahab Shah was also seen on stage once again, showcasing his dancing abilities on the title track of the serial, concluding the show. Later, guests were served with a scrumptious dinner.
