Syriana, an inspiration from a non-fiction book See No Evil by Robert Baer is a diamond in the rough by Stephen Gaghan.
It’s hard to imagine the sensibilities of the film written any better than in the format of sporadically shifting characters like that of George Clooney’s cynical, real world, CIA operative; or Matt Damon’s oil-analyst-cum-broker, who gets hired by a reform-minded Prince (Alexander Siddig); or a distracted Pakistani youth (Mazhar Munir) who is lured into becoming a suicide-bomber; and the fourth significant — the corporate lawyer (Jeffrey Wright) — entwined in an enigma.
One is yet to find a better geopolitical thriller that rings so close to home than that of Mr Gaghan’s supposedly true world. It’s difficult to dissipate the energy rallying within Syriana’s blood-stream. However many might find it difficult to swallow all the coincidences.

House
No doctor has ever been portrayed on TV like Gregory House, M.D. Unlike the earlier TV days when doctors were caring, kind and polite, House is neither. He is a maverick physician and a champion of sarcastic remarks. He pops pills, labels patients as liars, lacks bedside manner, manipulates his own colleagues and watches soaps on TV. But behind all these inappropriateness, Gregory House is a great human being who saves a life a week, in the complete first season of House, available on DVD now.
A cross between E.R., C.S.I. and N.C.I.S., and rendering Hollywood’s best director’s touch — namely Bryan Singer — House has the lively Brit Hugh Laurie (Stuart Little) playing the limping Dr House, who never abstains from saying what’s on his mind. He and his team of hand-picked specialists thrive on the challenge of solving medical cases no other doctor would take up.
Why should one watch House ? Well, the doctor weaves his magic with a walking stick to solve cases like Sherlock Holmes, using cunning techniques, bringing out the truth about illness, medical history and secrets — all in an hour. Add special features and you get a must-watch series on DVD.
