The venue: The opulent Mohatta Palace in Karachi. The event: Celebrating a legacy of success and exclusivity to mark the relaunch of a special form of banking. The event titled Living the Legacy was all about how important it is to not only achieve success and leave behind a legacy, but to live it in one’s lifetime as well.
The first thing that caught one’s attention upon reaching the venue was the beautifully lit Mohatta Palace complemented by a perfect ambience. Glowing candles, urns full of beautiful flowers, velvet gazebos for guests to sit and relax and beautiful flower arrangement on tables spoke about the attention given to detail. The overall event was conceptualized, directed and choreographed by Frieha Altaf and her team.
On arrival, the guests were welcomed by an exquisite display of antique cars and an exclusive art exhibition. Azhar Hussain, one of the well-known Piano players, was at hand and the art exhibition courtesy Sameera at Canvas featured paintings of some of the renowned artists of Pakistan such as Jamil Naqsh, Najmi Sura, Ijaz-ul-Hassan, Ismail Gulgee, Amin Gulgee, Iqbal Hussain, Salima Hashmi, Anwar Saeed, Afshar Malik, Naiza Khan, Mansur Rahi, Rabia Zuberi, Hajra Mansur, Nahid Raza, Mehr Afroze, Riffat Alvi, A.R. Nagori, Shahid Sajjad, Tasaddaq Sohail, Akram Dost Baloch, Jamal Shah, Jabbar Gull, Usman Ghouri, Shakil Saigol, Ghulam Rasul, Ghulam Mustafa, Unver Shafi Khan, Imran Qureshi, Aisha Khalid and Nusra Latif.
The vintage cars displayed in the foyer area of the venue created an adrenalin rush for car lovers. Displayed at the venue were personal collections of individuals comprising Rolls Royce Silver Ghost (1924), Lincoln Continental Cabriolet (1947), Riley Roadster 2 (1949), Cadillac SR62 Convertible (1953), Jaguare Type Coupe Series 1 (1967), Rolls Royce Silver Cloud II (1959), MG A Roadster (1958), MG B Roadster (1963), Lincoln Continental (1962) and Chevrolet Saloon (1938).
The cars carried a glorious past and had history attached to them, such as the Rolls Royce Silver Ghost that was originally owned by the Nawab of Bahawalpur. The Lincoln Continental Cabriolet was originally owned by the former King of Afghanistan Shah Zahir or Riley Roadster 2 was used in the movie Jinnah and Faakhir’s music video Mahi Ve. One finds it hard to visualise these huge, heavy, shinning vehicles ruling the roads or imagine driving these magnificent cars on the roads of Karachi these days.
The show was divided into five segments — gold, jewels, black, ethnic and modern. The ensembles were traditional carrying an old world charm combined with modern silhouettes
Not only paintings and cars, to top it all a cigar lounge carrying classic cigars brands in the foyer area caught the attention of the guests. The second half of the evening hosted by Ayesha Alam was the most awaited part of the evening. After the welcome note by Ahmed Khizer Khan and a short speech by Frederick Frits Seegers who reconfirmed his commitment to the growth of business in Pakistan, the fashion show titled Reminiscent of the Raj featured the works of designers Faiza Samee and Deepak Perwani.
The show was divided into five segments — gold, jewels, black, ethnic and modern. The ensembles were traditional carrying an old world charm combined with modern silhouettes. They comprised embroidered saris, ghagras, lehngas, agarkha-style kurtas, dhoti shalwars, tung pajamas, tube pants to Turki topis and suits in black, green, gold, pink, red, rust and brown. The ensembles were beautifully presented by models Iman Ali, Gia Ali, Rubab, Nadia Hussain, Nadia Malik, Racheal Gill, Misha, Neha, Tadmeen, Sanam, Ameer Khan, Adnan Malik, Daniyal, Rizwan Haider, Atif Manzoor, Faisal Shah, Ahad, Asad, Naveed, Junaid, Basit and Adnan. The hair and make-up was by Humayun and Shaheen with jewellery by Ali Javari and Amna Sami. The fashion segment also carried poetic narration by Imran Aslam.
After the show, lucky draw prizes comprising a first-class train ticket on Eurail, a royal Caribbean Cruise from Miami, Florida, exclusive watches for the men and women and many other prizes in collaboration with the brand partners was held. The scrumptious dinner that followed saw most of the guests breaking all rules of courtesy. Later, they settled down once again for the concluding next segment — a performance by Tina Sani who sang some of her famous ghazals — Aap ki yaad, Anokha laadla, Koi baat karo and many more. An apt ending to a wonderful evening held to launch CitiGold Priority Banking.
