The cadre of press and gaggle of socialites can be quite naive as this writer recently found out when he overheard one of them announce that she was disappointed that the real Paris Hilton had not shown up for the launch of the Paris Hilton perfume for women last Sunday in Karachi.
Now we all know that Paris is brave and adventurous, having delved into video-making, billionaire boyfriend-swapping and posing on cue like the seasoned Hollywood starlet that she’s not, but coming to Karachi may have been too outlandish even for the impetuous platinum glamourpuss.
Instead, Karachiites descended upon the above-mentioned venue as if Marilyn Monroe had been resurrected, to gaze at Ana, who was posing as Paris Hilton, pouting for lensmen in front of life-size cardboard cutouts of the hotel heiress and celebutante.
“I wanted a tall, skinny fair girl to imitate Paris,” said event manager Freiha Altaf, who employed Nabila’s creative team in Karachi to do Ana’s make-up.
Ana’s breathy little girl voice asked Karachiites to “experience Paris’s glamorous lifestyle by spritzing her signature perfume.” The perfume is encased in a fashionable pink crystal flask-like bottle and the scent is sure to attract gajra-loving Pakistanis.
