STARBUZZ: Clooney talks trash

George Clooney loves sparring with Bill O’Reilly — but the actor would just as soon keep the jabs verbal. Appearing at an American Film Institute panel in LA recently, Clooney was asked if he’d be willing to box his longtime antagonist at the casino Clooney is helping to develop in Las Vegas.

“He’d kick my a**,” replied Clooney. “He’s 6-foot-4.” Not that Clooney, who’s 5-foot-11, is shying away from another round of teasing. Clooney recalled at the event that O’Reilly offered him an olive twig when he recommended “Good Night and Good Luck,” Clooney’s movie about CBS eminence Edward R. Murrow’s battle with Red-baiter Sen. Joseph McCarthy. But that was before Clooney told us that O’Reilly mistakenly “sees himself as Murrow.”

That prompted O’Reilly to counter, “I don’t recommend Clooney as a human being.” Clooney laughed, adding, “We thought of taking out an ad [for the movie], saying that: ‘I don’t recommend Clooney as a human being.’ — Bill O’Reilly.’” Clooney also dispensed some spleen to Gov. Schwarzenegger.

“Arnold’s doing a lousy job,” said the star, “but I don’t know who could do a good job running California.” Asked if he’d ever run for office, Clooney said, “No, I would run from office! It’s more fun to be on the outside causing problems.”—Rush & Molloy
