Well-known foreign brands catering to sartorial wear have been around in Pakistan for a while now, and many local manufacturers of western labels catering exclusively to males have also been marketing their export left-over products in the local market for a number of years.
However, the female species has been largely neglected in this respect, with the result that there has been hardly any imported or export quality branded wear available for them till recently. Mercifully, at least one international brand renowned for its jeans has recently introduced a ladies range for local consumption, complete with smart tops so that trendy girls and women no longer have to depend on getting their casuals from abroad.
To launch the Levi’s Lady, a fashion show was organized at its outlet in Karachi where top models casually paraded in chic jeans and blouses and mingled with the guests who partook of hors d’ oeuvres and drinks as they watched one ensemble after another being exhibited. Leading the entourage of models — there were thirteen altogether, excluding Gia Ali, who walked in well after the models had made their entries and some even their exits — was Iraj Manzoor. Looking smashing in skin-tight jeans and white cotton blouse, she set the pace for the others to follow. The other leading models that could be spotted were Tania Shafi, Rubab, Sadaf Parvaiz, Zhalay and Sunita Marshall accompanied by Ruby Chaudhry, Anisa, Maryum, Faiza Asad, Maha, Shazdeh and Sanam.
With most of the models tall and slim, boasting ideals figures for the figure-hugging denim with flattering embellishments, it was no wonder that all the pants with their low waists looked enticing on them. One hopes though that the trouser cuts are as flattering on less than perfect figures. The short bustier-like tops, T-shirts and blouses too, were stylish but basically meant for slim silhouettes. The make-up and hairstyles done at Ravissant added spice to the outfits.
