It’s official. The Lux Style Awards 2005 will be held in Pakistan in the second half of this year. The announcement by Unilever ends the speculation whether the awards ceremony would take place at all this year. According to a press release, the delay in announcing this year’s awards was due to the need to review the safety and security situation in the country.
Although the LSA awards in Dubai last year received extensive coverage, many critics were of the view that there was too much Indian participation and that the event which recognizes and celebrates local talent should take place in Pakistan.—Faisal Quraishi
More on Meera
It seems that the grass is not all that green across the border for our local filmi patakha, Meera. A section of the press recently led her fans to believe that the dusky siren had received death threats for doing a particularly steamy scene in an under-production Mahesh Bhatt movie. Another newspaper reported that the Pakistani government has imposed heavy fine on our girl for the same reason. However, when contacted, the star’s equally starry manager was in complete denial. But given Mr Bhatt’s penchant to treat his viewers to sizzlers, who can tell (remember Murder)?
What’s more, Meera herself has now denied giving any such statement to the press. As for us, we can well understand Meera’s selective amnesia given the state of her affairs and mind.—S. Reza
