STARBUZZ: Two-timing Tariq

It seems people have to eat their words at some point in time, and the man in question is none other than stylist Tariq Amin!

With his scalding hot “I-don’t-need-a-soap...” dictate to a section of the press regarding an upcoming style awards, Mr Fraudiyay has now gone ahead and done exactly that. Reliable sources tell us that not only will he present the best designer men’s wear award, but also handle hair and make-up at the ceremony in Dubai.

It seems Tariq, who also won the first Lux style award for best hair and make-up, still has a lot of lather left in him! Errr, excuse me, Tariq, but I think your ‘slip’ is showing! — FQ

Riding with royalty

There were no jokes about high tea when Jay-Z sipped Earl Grey with Great Britain’s Prince Charles the other day.

The hip-hop nobleman chatted with the man who would be king about his hard-knock life growing up in Brooklyn, New York. Jay-Z and girlfriend Beyonce joined Alicia Keys, Mos Def, hip-hop impresario Steve Stoute and other Americans to raise money for the prince’s Trust charity.

Later, Lord Jacob Rothschild threw a party for Russell Simmons and his wife, Baby Phat designer Kimora Lee.

“These British royals are totally into hip-hop,” said one New Yorker who was on the trip. “They’re both into opulent bling-bling.”—Rush and Molloy

Usha arrives

The Indian showbiz industry has taken Pakistan by storm. No sooner do we hear of the departure of one performer, another is on his or her way to the country. Usha Uthup, the famous Indian singer who has ruled the hearts of music lovers since her debut in 1969, is said to be coming to Karachi in early June to perform, for the first time in her life, in the port city. Apparently, she has a huge fan following of the older kind here. Uthup is India’s first and only artist to have recorded six English albums. She can sing in 13 languages, including Ukrainian and Kazakh!

She started out as a nightclub singer and slowly climbed to the top of the music ladder. She has sung for prime ministers and presidents, including Nelson Mandela. Invited by a local hotel, one has to see how she fares with Karachi-wallas.—A.F
