A journey that recently began from Antwerp, the fashion capital of Belgium, concluded in Karachi drawing a big crowd. The spotlight was on the stylist duo, Sonya and Christopher Dove. The themes for the show were divided into three distinct categories: Tales of Folk, Secret Affairs, and Urban Manifesto.
Although the main thrust was on hair colour, highlights and cuts, fashion and fantasy were interwoven to form an intricate pattern as the audience witnessed patch-work fabrics with dainty embroidery, fine lace and knitted, flowing tops in the Tales of Folk segment.
Secret Affairs, inspired by tales of The Arabian Nights, intermingling Oriental opulence in silks and brocades, Asian mythology and overwhelming masculinity, was directed at the senses. Hair was tied in sensual knots and precise cuts, complimenting the gauzes and soft silks.
Combining different cultural elements to create something new in Urban Manifesto, the result was an expression of attitude a la graffiti, funky T-shirts, retro music moves and wild hairstyles, including the one in spikes.
Fayez Agariah and his team set a new trend with Wella Trend Vision 2004. German hairstylist Bernd Laquai and his Pakistani counterpart Afshan Ansari did a good job. But it was the choreographer from Los Angeles, Kevin Allen,
who walked away with the leading credits in the end amidst applause for the model brigade.
