Vogue aspirations

By MahaLina Rashed

A fashion show at a farmhouse? Well, this one seemed to be different as one entered through the glass doors and went to the swimming pool area. One saw models sauntering along the waterfall over a glass floor towards the head ramp. Chinese, Japanese and Kashmiri collections were the displayed amidst a pleasant environment of fruits and flowers in Lahore recently.

The show started with a tulip couture line using shades of pink accessories with Venetian masks. Kashmir was given its due recognition, this time not with the typical white tones but ‘ferozi’ and apple green tie ‘n’ dye. The lines were daring but wearable. Paisley was used to give modern couture line a conservative appearance.

A flashback to the ’70s began with the saris — in camouflage polka dots. But to provide a contemporary look, the blouses were embellished with designs.

The next line was said to have been inspired by the cherry blossoms of Japan — straightforward and with fuchsia and brown mixed together. Oriental fiery reds followed. The Chinese motifs were blended with traditional cut lines to make them multi-purpose. A bridal line followed with ghagras, and lungis were twisted to give them a modern, minimalist look.

The show by Nicki ‘n’ Nina was followed by a disco on the side, even though the music was not quite avant-garde.
