A good gesture

By Mohammad Salman

A few weeks ago, PTV Karachi Centre organized a special ceremony to honour the winners of PTV’s recently held National Awards hailing from the centre. It was an interesting ceremony attended by the award winners, media and a special delegation from Beijing Television.

Programme Manager KTV, Manzoor Qureshi, hosted the show. He invited the winners to the dais, where General Manager KTV Ather Waqar Azeem, members of the Chinese delegation and Senator Taj Haider (who was also one of the winners for his script-writing) gave away bouquets to them.

Speaking on the occasion, Ather Waqar Azeem hailed the performances of KTV’s artists and technicians, acknowledging the fact that in the past year, KTV had earned more awards than any other centre of PTV. He attributed their success to their hard work and unsparing talent.

The programme was a flawless affair, except for the late arrival of Taj Haider and Sadia Imam. But one could understand that because the former is a politician and the latter a known actress, such minor hiccups can be overlooked

Renowned PTV producer Kazim Pasha, who won the best director award for a single play, in his acceptance speech emphasized the need to introduce new equipment into KTV Centre so that the quality of production could meet modern day requirements.

Members of Beijing Television also addressed the gathering through their interpreter and profusely thanked officials of Karachi Television Centre for extending warm hospitality to them during their research, as they were in Pakistan filming a documentary on the country.

The programme was a flawless affair, except for the late arrival of Taj Haider and Sadia Imam. But one could understand that because the former is a politician and the latter a known actress, they were given their due chances not only to collect the bouquets but to address the gathering as well.

Apart from Taj Haider and Sadia Imam, Kazim Pasha, Qazi Wajid Mumtaz Kanwal, Ali Rizvi, Zakia Akbar and Sabir Zafar were also among the winners present in whose honour the programme was arranged.
