Scary Movie 3
It has been a while since the first Scary Movie was released. It outraged some, but managed to entertain most others. It has inspired a string of movies in its wake such as Shriek: I Know What You Did Last Friday The 13th and Not Another Teen Movie.

Now, three years down the line, Scary Movie 3 appears bigger than the first two, with David Zucker of the Airplane and Naked Gun series of movies taking over the reigns of direction from the Wayan brothers, who started the franchise. Add to that a cast led by Leslie Nielsen, Charlie Sheen, Queen Latifah, Pamela Anderson, Jenny McCarthy, Eddie Griffin and even Ja Rule all goofing around in one skit or another. So, is it better than its predecessors? Nope. Three’s definitely no charm in this case.

It’s downright offensive, as usual. Michael Jackson’s ‘love’ of young boys gets a dose, while the movie The Ring gets shred to pieces. The Matrix, 8 Mile and other flicks are also parodied. But in spite of all the fanfare, the movie never really takes off. Sure, there are quite a few giggles to be had with each little skit, but the sum total just doesn’t add up to a saucy flick.

A word of advice: the movie is definitely not for children. People with zero tolerance for outrageous stuff and those who haven’t watched the aforementioned flicks may miss the point altogether. For fans of the genre, expect to be a wee bit disappointed. —Saqib Khan
