At a delightful acting and debating contest held recently at a club, the chief guest was actor Shakeel who, due to some reason, wasn’t able to come at the appointed time. So, a panicky call was made by the organizers to Anwar Maqsood to fill in the chief guest’s place at the last moment. Not one to let others down, the dependable Maqsood senior, true to his word, turned up to save the day. But he wasn’t amused by the original chief guest not turning up after having promised to do so.
Turn up he did, but right near the end of the programme. Shakeel breathlessly stated that he was late due to the shooting of a serial. So now, the organizers had two chief guests to contend with. The children, on the other hand, were delighted to have two popular figures among them. The dilemma was solved with both the artists being invited on stage to say a few words and give away the prizes.
The Rio Double Treat Challenge had children aged 8-12 acting so well, they could easily replace some of the artists on television in the future if they pay attention to their acting. So watch out all you mediocres in forgettable serials.—K.H.
Ashton and Demi to wed?
They may not be quite ready to take the plunge, but Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher seem to have their toes on the marital diving board. But they may not be registering just yet. “They’re enraptured,” says a pal. “At the same time, it’s a complicated situation.” He’s 25, she’s 41, and they’ve dated for less than a year. She needs more time to sort things out, says the friend.—R&M
