It was a unique jamming session between the who’s who of music — Strings, Ali Azmat and Noori — who not only had the small audience mesmerized, but seemed to be having a whale of a time themselves. Junaid Jamshed, the eldest in the singing group, having sung a few songs, left early for a good night’s sleep — a far thought that evening, or rather morning, for the younger lot.
The evening had been arranged by Bilal Maqsood and Faisal Kapadia at Bilal’s very mod house, if one can use the word, which was built recently. Supervised by his architect wife, the house is in a quaint compound which has three other houses owned by his parents, aunt and cousin respectively. The idea for such a session was put by Bilal’s cousin Rasikh who has just returned from Kuwait. And of course the famous parents were there as well. Anwar Maqsood was just as comfortable listening to the pop songs of the younger generation as he is with the vintage songs. Imrana, a script-writer becoming busier by the day, was tired out by five little grandchildren at the end of the day and made an early retreat. A delightful evening that came to an end in the morning.—A.F
Sibling rivalry
Has music mogul Tommy Mottola come between superstar Marc Anthony and his brother Bigram Zayas? Anthony and Zayas seemed to be inseparable. Zayas had been the singer’s manager for eight years. Then, three months ago, Zayas was replaced by Mottola. According to an insider, Mottola began to woo Anthony to his new management company shortly after stepping down as chairman of Sony Music.—Rush and Molloy
A complete circle
Noor sure has come full circle. When she entered the film industry a couple of years ago, she did so with a brazen vow to dethrone Reema, the then queen bee. But this was not to be. Soon, rumours started trickling in of young Noor moving about in the wrong circles.
While people close to the model-cum-actress remained tight-lipped about her ‘extra-curricular’ activities, recently the Chand (of Mujhe Chand Chahiye) came out in the public herself. In what can be termed as a major showdown between Noor and her parents, says the mole, her father Sheraz has accused his daughter of marrying a Dubai-based rich Hindu industrialist without their consent. Noor took the matter to court, receiving the verdict in her favour. According to a report, the actress produced enough evidence against the accusation, convincing the court that the picture of her so-called marriage was that of a stage play she had done in Dubai, and that her parents were actually after her hard-earned money.
Noor, we’re told, has been allowed by the court to live separately from her parents. Ever since, the daring damsel has been going around tinseltown with renewed gusto and definitely another round of (tall?) claims of her becoming number one in the film industry, again. This time, of course, she hasn’t pitched herself against any one single heroine, but she is said to be going an extra mile to get herself good roles, even on TV if necessary.—-Abdur Rauf
