Meera has always been a constant source of breaking news. This time she is said to be working in a tele-film in which she will be acting as Anarkali of Emperor Jehangir fame. Interestingly, her mother Shafqat Bukhari is producing the film and Farooq Mengal is the director.
According to Meera, it will be the first time her fans will see her on the small screen. The entire film will be shot in the Lahore Fort, which was the actual stage where this real-life historical drama played itself out. Famous filmi dress designer Beegee is designing the costumes. The actress said that she always wanted to act in a costume film, but the recent trend in Lollywood is very hostile towards historical films. That is why her mother is producing this tele-flick.
Meera revealed that the film will run for 120 minutes and will have songs and choreographed dances. The recordings will start in the first week of August and the entire film will be completed in a month. We’ll just have to wait and see.—M.J
Selling France
France has announced four unlikely new ambassadors to the United States: Woody Allen, Wynton Marsalis, George Plimpton and Robert De Niro. The four Francophiles are all in a new short film promoting American tourism to the land of the fragrant fromage. France is trying to heal the Atlantic rift created over its opposition to the US invasion of Iraq.
In the ad, called ‘Let’s fall in love again,’ Allen says, “I don’t want to have to refer to my French-fry potatoes as ‘freedom fries,’ and I don’t want to have to ‘freedom kiss’ my wife, when I really want to French kiss her.” Lucky Soon-Yi.—Rush and Molloy
Rainy season
An anxious and sad Zaheer Khan was seen receiving guests at the wedding of his daughter Sidra. Sad because he was giving his daughter away and anxious because it was the rainy season. Keeping this in mind he had the open area covered which stopped the breeze, whatever little there was, thus creating a stifling atmosphere in the tastefully decorated space. Two years earlier Zaheer Khan’s elder daughter’s mehndi was disturbed with torrential rains in the same month. So he didn’t want history repeating itself and thus the precaution. Lucky for him, it rained the next day.
Apart from family, TV celebrities were present in large numbers. Humaira Zaheer, the bride’s mother, looked radiant and young. Someone remarked that she looked more like a sister than the mother of the bride.—A.F
