STARBUZZ: Like father, like son

A buzz that has been doing the rounds in Lollywood recently is that film star Nadeem is set to feature his son in his first film production. Though Nadeem was not available for comment, his son Faisal came across as a savvy young man, who was intelligent enough to say, “No statement!” before anything was finalized. Faisal neither accepted nor denied the rumour, but stated clearly that he would “definitely do the music for the film.”

Faisal Baig has formally studied music from Boston University in the US and ever since he returned to Pakistan (which was some time ago), he has been engaged mainly in composing music for privately produced TV plays. He recently finished the songs and background score for actor Rehan Sheikh’s first tele-film and is also doing the music for KHI, a bilingual tele-film in Urdu and English. Those who’ve heard his compositions can’t stop raving about the boy’s creative abilities. And, for all we know, Faisal might soon spring a surprise by choosing to act on the silver screen.—-Abdur Rauf

Pam ditches Kid?

Is the music over between Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock? Despite a year-long engagement, the pneumatic nymph seems to be spending more time with her ex, Tommy Lee, than her Detroit rocker fiance. She recently showed up without Rock at a party in L.A.

“I’m here with family and friends,” she told a reporter. “That might be a hint.” Asked whether the wedding was still on, she said: “Assume what you want about a wedding, but ‘assuming’ is making a fool out of you and me.”—Rush and Molloy

Out of sight, not out of mind

Veteran TV artist Subhani ba Younus might have bid adieu to his acting career, but he can still rouse attention when he appears in public. Last week when he walked into the OPD of a Karachi hospital accompanied by his son, he was recognized by patients and staff members. Attired in shalwar kameez, his tall frame appeared more lanky and the beard gave him an elderly look.

An extremely versatile actor who was seen in nearly every other play in the past, he will always be remembered for his roles in Mirza Ghalib and Taleem-i-Balighan specially.

A chat with Subhani ba Younus revealed he has not been provided any medical assistance by PTV for his illness, but the governor has granted him financial help to meet his medical expenses. Asked why he was not seen on TV anymore, he replied, “They don’t find any attraction in me now.”

It was really upsetting for his fans, friends and family when an English daily erroneously wrote his name prefixed with ‘late’ some time back. “They declared me dead. I was distressed to read it,” he said, adding that to reverse the damage caused by the glaring error, all he was promised was an interview in the paper in question.—S.S
