STARBUZZ: A high price

Humayun Saeed is one showbiz personality we don’t get to hear many scandals about. But, those who thought that this might be because of the handsome actor’s married status will have to eat crow when they hear that Humayun is head over heels in love with Amna Bano, a new girl from Lahore — says the grapevine.

Rumour has it that Humayun fell in love with Amna while shooting for a drama serial which is presently going on air on a private channel. Their reel-life romantic scenes turned for real, and soon word got out of the studio sets and reached Humayun’s wife, who was furious. Of course Amna was upset too, but little did she know that the worse was yet to come. According to another tele mole, wifey got insecure to the point where she actually made some calls to Amna. The poor girl had no choice but to start avoiding Humayun.

Today, the situation is such that Amna goes to the sets quietly, under the strict vigil of her ‘bodyguards,’ who are said to have been hired by her mother. One guesses such is the price you have to sometimes pay for love and fame!—Abdur Rauf

Twin city

Good thing their dad didn’t see Barbara and Jenna Bush at the party that hip-hop honcho Andre Harrell and Cognac prince Maurice Hennessy threw at the NYC hotspot Butter. Spies spotted the twins getting way down on the dance floor with rap king Sean Combs. And what was that fragrant smell that wafted over the room?

The party also drew Naomi Campbell, Jessica Alba, Jay-Z, Fred Durst, Christian Slater, Queen Latifah, Ludacris and Angela Bassett.—Rush and Molloy

A burden lifted

It was quite a gathering at a local hotel recently. Beautifully groomed women could be spotted all over the hall chatting and laughing with each other, their professional rivalries on hold for the moment. It wasn’t for nothing that the ladies were in such a jovial mood — they were celebrating the tax cuts announced by the government for beauticians hosted by P & G.

President of the Pakistan Hairdressers and Beauticians Association, Rohana Iqbal, said the only women dominated profession was going through a crunch due to excessive taxation. The beauticians could now breath a little easily as the majority of them would be able to make ends meet. Perhaps now with their hearts and their minds in their work, clients will look even prettier.—K.H

In the public eye

Eye caramba! A pair of puffy peepers set off rumours that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have had a brawl over Jennifer Lopez. For some time now, reps for all the parties have been swatting away tab reports that Damon doesn’t want his buddy marrying J-Lo. The story festered again when London’s Sun ran photos of Damon and Affleck sporting what it said were shiners.

The paper quoted a source on Damon’s new movie, Stuck on you, in which he and Greg Kinnear play Siamese twins, as saying that Damon “wouldn’t say what happened, making it even more intriguing.” Affleck’s rep didn’t return calls. But Damon’s spokeswoman said: “In the movie, Matt is supposed to be sprayed with Mace. (His irritated eye) is a combination of whatever they sprayed him with and a little makeup.” She added, “Matt loves Ben, and he loves Jennifer.”—Rush and Molloy
