It was a typical dark December night in Lahore. There was almost no traffic outside and it seemed that only dry and cold breezes had the courage to roar on the empty roads. At midnight, the mercury was below five degrees centigrade in the open, but floor one of the famous Bari Studios was full of life. Prime Entertainment was celebrating its first anniversary here. It was the first time at Bari Studios that any TV show on such a large scale had been organized with many from the showbiz crowd in attendance.
The set was simple yet artistic and Tanveer Fatima Rehman, who has a good reputation in this department, was the lady behind it. She did a great job in transforming the dirty and old studio floor into a decent hall. Umer Sharif, who was, according to the audience, at his best, anchored the show. It was his jokes and witty remarks which kept the audience in their seats throughout the night. Otherwise, the cold winds that were blowing were a good reason to skip the proceedings.

Najam Sheraz started the show with his Hamd in his new-found style. He got emotional during the performance and tears were flowing out of his eyes. The singer has now become a serious performer who is focussing more on quality. Haroon, another very popular singer from Karachi was next. He and Umer Sharif had a very interesting discourse on stage and the laughter from the audience spread everywhere. He sang a song with an Arabic touch and it was well received by the crowd. Salma Agha and her husband Rehmat Khan were also present. Recently, his sons have won the International Junior Squash Championship in India.
Faakhir was next to come on stage. He was a bit nervous, facing the witty remarks of ferocious Umer Sharif, but eventually his cool attitude was his successful defence. He sang two songs and the best response from the audience was for his Punjabi bhangra number.
Naghmana Jafri also received a typical dose of remarks from Umer Sharif. She sang two songs and beat a hasty retreat. Model and actress Rija performed on Sajjad Ali’s hit Sohni lagdi. Ahsan Khan also performed on a song sung by the late Ahmed Rusdie. Salma Agha was next, looking quite graceful in a sari. Umer tried to confuse her also with his conversation but she was clever enough to face his questions. She said she is also composing songs now and her new album, Dil ki kitab is ready for release.
Classical singer Shafqat Ali Khan sang a special song with the message of peace. Yasir Akhtar was next on stage. He told the audience he will soon be acting in movies, but he would prefer to work with a new team. He performed two songs and in one of them, actress Aleena also participated. Jawad Ahmed is at present the most successful singer. He sang a couple of songs in his unique style which made the audience get up and dance. Waris Baig sang a song which is also his first Punjabi album. Others followed. This programme will be aired on December 31.
