The marriage season is in full swing and it seems that everyone single is looking for his or her mate these days. The biggest news in showbiz regarding weddings is that TV actress Urooj Nasir is getting married to another TV personality, Nauman Masood, very soon. They were engaged on Eid day in a ceremony consisting of family and friends in Lahore.
Nauman fell for Urooj during the recording of a TV serial. After some time, he sent his mother to her home for the formal approval which was happily granted. The marriage ceremony will be held by the end of February 2003. Nauman Masood who shifted from Islamabad to Lahore recently, is quite busy with TV plays and films these days. Urooj on the other hand, is busy in shopping and is very happy in landing the ultimate role in life’s play.—M.J
A critical view
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis may still be in his battalion, but Hollywood’s loyal opposition continues to pound US President Bush.
Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins are scoffing at Bush’s appointment of Henry Kissinger to head a commission probing intelligence and security failures that led to Sept 11.
“It’s like something that Mad TV thought up,” Sarandon said at a benefit show. Asked who she might nominate to join the former secretary of state on the panel, the actress suggested, “How about (ex-Serbian strongman) Slobodan Milosevic? Let’s put all the war criminals on it.”
Robbins said that appointing Kissinger “made a lot of sense” if Bush doesn’t want the public to know of errors in judgment. “The fix has been in for years,” he said.
Meanwhile, Colombia’s second-most-popular export, Shakira, is trying her hand at political commentary in her show. During her protest song Octavo dia, a video screen shows puppets of Bush and Saddam Hussein playing a violent game of chess. The camera then reveals the Grim Reaper pulling their strings.
Then there’s Barbra Streisand, who has used her Web site to launch a new attack on the White House.
Not surprisingly, the White House had no comment on any of this unsolicited advice.—Rush and Molloy
A new approach
The little drama that was taking place on the screen had everyone glued to it, so intense were the visuals. But everyone soon realized why they had congregated at the place as the story which was actually an ad, came to an end. It was the launch of a perfume which made its Presence felt.
Among the special guests were Zeba Bakhtiar who looked stunning with her slimmer look and peaches and cream complexion. She explained that she was diabetic and on a regimented diet, thus the slim appearance. The German consul general who was the guest of honour discovered that the company, Mont Blanc, was German and not French although it was based in France. Mohsin Feroze, whose company is marketing the product, was happy with his fragrance and to see so many personalities from different walks of life present on the occasion.—K.H
K & K canoodle
Red-hot model Heidi Klum has hooked up with Red Hot Chili Pepper Anthony Kiedis.
Less than a week after the catwalk angel announced the end of her marriage to hair stylist Ric Pipino, she’s been scampering around Sydney with the wild rocker.
The couple was spotted kissing in a cafe on Sydney’s Bondi Beach. Klum later wrapped her long legs around Kiedis’ silver Harley-Davidson motorcycle and toured the city.
Kiedis, 40, did not break up the marriage of Klum, 29, and Pepino, 43, a friend tells us.
“Heidi and Ric hadn’t lived together in months,” says the pal. “She met Anthony just a few weeks ago.”
While Kiedis and his band tour Down Under, Klum is in Venice to shoot a Victoria’s Secret campaign.
Exchanging a Pepino for a Pepper is not the only change Klum is making on the home front. We hear she’s due to move out of her midtown Manhattan rental and into a West Village loft she bought a few months ago and has been renovating. Let’s hope she puts in a sound studio.—Rush and Molloy
