STAR BUZZ: The Anwer-Akhtar are back

Anwer Maqsood and Moin Akhtar will be seen on the mini screen performing together after a lapse of nine years. They have recorded a comedy talk show for ARY Digital channel titled Loose Talk. Watch out Tim Sebastian, from now on no one’s going to take Hard Talk seriously anymore. Moin Akhtar will be answering Anwer Maqsood’s questions in different episodes playing different characters including Dilip Kumar and an Indian lady minister who recently visited Pakistan. As ARY is a UK-based international channel, Anwer Maqsood has been provided the liberty to go a little beyond the censor codes of local media. Bushra Ansari will also portray six female characters in the programme.

Moin Akhtar astonished many Karachiites and workers in the studio when he drove all the way from his residence in Gulshan-e-Iqbal in the Indian lady minister’s getup to record the show.

Anwer Maqsood and Moin Akhtar will be leaving for America after completing all the episodes. Both will perform cultural shows for two months for the Pakistani community in different states.—K.F.

Side dishes

Elizabeth Hurley made sure her roots weren’t showing when the time came to give birth to little Damian Charles. She booked an appointment with her personal stylist, Jo Hansford, for some highlights two days before making her entrance in the delivery room.

Bruce Springsteen’s eyes lit up at Manhattan’s ‘What Comes Around Goes Around’ when he spotted a T-shirt from a concert tour he did in 1975. The owners of the vintage clothing store, where the Boss is a regular customer, made his day by giving it to him.—Rush and Molloy

Resorting to re-sorting!

Zara Sheikh may have come under the limelight with the success of Terey pyar mein but her popularity starts much before that. When the Gul brothers wrote her off as a non-entity, Khawar Riaz took it upon himself to transform Zara into a heart-stopper. He succeeded and then brought her again over to the Gul kingdom. The brothers conceded their boo-boos and consequently Zara was all over billboards, TV and dailies.

Then with so much recognition (thanks to the Guls’) Zara vowed undying devotion to her mentors and didn’t take any other project, post TPM; pledging hundred percent performance for CIL. She even chose to forego another film for the Guls’ project. Now that CIL had made it to theatres and people have given their not-so-positive views about it, Zara should resort to ‘re-sorting’ her priorities. After all, she does not have any golden vocals for playback singing and has rubbed many people the wrong way by refusing their projects!—J.D.

Maternity blues

Sarah Jessica Parker’s maternity leave has stirred a bit of grumbling on the set of Sex and the City. It’s not that everyone on her show isn’t happy for Parker and her husband, Matthew Broderick. But some claim she’s already the mother of all divas. Crew members, who’d been complaining about the abrupt cancellation of several shoots during the past month, learned recently that the show would go on hiatus for several weeks due to Parker’s delicate condition. So one crew member says it “made us annoyed” to see the actress had the energy on Saturday to do a photo shoot for HBO’s ad campaign. “The demands of a photo shoot are very different than the long hours of production,” argues an HBO rep. “There’ll be a lot of pressure on the crew when production does resume, so we’re trying to get as much accomplished now as we can.”—Rush and Molloy
