Another winner Anu Malik is back after a series of successful albums this year, such as Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai, Ajnabee and Asoka. And with him is the well known lyricist, Gulzar. Together, they gave some great numbers in Asoka and Fiza. Combined with equally competent music, the Tabu-Sushmita Sen starrer Filhaal is set to rock the music world. The lyrics by Gulzar they are simply mind-blowing. Each word possesses a meaning in itself. The fresh, breezy and highly innovative tracks are the main ingredients of the album.
The title track Yeh Lamha Filhaal is sung by Asha Bhosle, who does a marvellous job in this song as usual. She sounds younger and the music throughout is pleasant, especially the piano parts which create a very soft aura, gelling well with the mood of the song. The background music has a wide variety and the chorus which is limited to saying Filhaal only, sounds extremely cool. The lyrics by Gulzar are of the first rate, specially in this song.
Roopkumar Rathod sings Lay Chaley Doaliyon Main with Chitra who enhances the song with her soft voice. The song is semi-fast with some very good music in the background. The ending of the song picks up pace, with an almost a wedding sort of beats. The lyrics create romantic images which come alive with the vocals.
Sola Singaar is a dance number. Jaspinder Narula gives the right amount of energy to this number. In a much sadder song, Waqt Ka Saaya, Sonu Nigam makes full use of his voice and sounds very different from his usual self. Jaspinder has also done a good job here. Both the singers have been successful intensifying and arousing emotions out of this sad composition.
Kyon Baar Baar is a pleasant and a well-composed song. The background music works well throughout, using the right instruments to convey the right mood. The tune is nice, although there is repetition which fars the effect somewhat. The use of the sitar and flute is worth mentioning as they enhance the rhythm of the song. It seems that the song was made for Chitra to sing.
Naya Naya Dhula Dhula by K.K and Chitra is another chirpy and listenable track.
Overall the efforts of Anu Malik and Gulzar have paid off and the album is a treat for the fans. —Azeem Haider
