THIS is with reference to Erum Hafeez's article “All that glitters...” (September 3, 2006). The writer has pointed out a harsh reality of our educational institutions which are providing education. The quality, however, is nothing to write home about. Montessori is where a child is first exposed to numbers, alphabets and the works – basically the building blocks — but there aren’t many educators who realise its importance. I consider myself lucky because I managed to graduate from school at a time when teachers believed in imparting quality education. Even then, however, the administration was more concerned with the payment of the students’ monthly fees and would go to great lengths to humiliate the children if their parents failed to pay on time.
