The trouble with teachers

THIS is with reference to Shahid Hussain’s article, “The trouble with teachers” (July 16, 2006). Being a teacher of a reputable educational institution, I agree with the points mentioned in the article but there are some important aspects upon which I would like to comment. There are many private institutions providing training to teachers, but generally, these trained teachers are employees where they are bound to obey the orders of their employers who, in most cases, are not ready to accept any change in teaching strategies .

Secondly, ICT integration in classrooms is being practiced by eminent schools, but computer literate teachers cannot make use of their IT skills as schools running on a low budget cannot afford to implement this. Thirdly, the lack of motivation makes teachers resistant to change.

The teachers who are working hard to create an active classroom, evaluating their lessons regularly, with the sole aim of educating and character building want nothing more than to be appreciated. In short, there is an immediate need to solve problems faced by teachers.
