THIS is with reference to Azeem Haider’s article (June 25, 2006). The problem is that parents do not teach children the importance of nutrition. Junk food is convenient because parents don’t have the time to cook proper food for their children. It is important to inculcate healthy eating habits at home so that the children learn to not to eat the junk food sold at school canteens.

THIS is with reference to Mehreen F. Ali’s article (June 25, 2006). Given the fact that young people are confined to the careers related to their vocation, it is good to know that avenues for fresh graduates are always open. Experimentation in any field of life is always good and so when you take the initiative to be different, you realise that the possibilities are endless. All it requires is a bit of courage.

THIS is with reference to Sa’adia Reza’s article (July 2, 2006). The HEC is doing what it should have a long time ago. It shouldn’t come as a shock to the Karachi University Teachers’ Society (Kuts) or anyone belonging to the academia. I am surprised at Mr Sarwar Nasim’s remarks that the HEC is a funding body but cannot implement its suggestions.
The system of higher education in the US is considered to be the best in the world. Researchers there compete for research funds and grants and once they receive it, they are answerable to the funding agencies. They report their progress every six months and secure further funding only after they have results. It makes sense because if you are paying for something, you expect to see results. So our teachers should stop making lame excuses and actually do something.
