THE UNSUNG HEROES: The man on the street as well as the one in Pajero together brought out the very best in human spirit. They came in rickshaws and limousines. They came young and they came old. And, above all, they came in numbers to do their bit in the wake of the recent earthquake. There was no class or gender bias in their actions; just a voluntary zeal. For once we were all human beings in the most pristine form. At the Dawn Magazine, we wish to salute these unsung heroes, and wonder how much more worthwhile it all would have been had their individual dynamism not run into
institutional incompetence that gripped the nationwide relief effort for at least the first four days of the disaster.
