All the president’s follies

By Muhammad Ali

THE US Presidential Elections are just two days away. And all that’s election worthy, from news, views, Bush bashing and the money that ends up in the candidates coffers, is being thoroughly covered on the Internet. For example, if it’s that latest update and coverage of the Elections that you’re looking for then the best place to get the latest is Yahoo! News — Presidential Elections http://news.yahoo.com/elections.

Apart from all the Bush and the Kerry bashing on the Net (and there’s lots of it) there is a lot to read as well. Headlines from news sources, as varied as wire services to newspapers are there at Yahoo!. A look at the candidates always helps, even if you’re not voting to elect any one of them. With the humour, the blogs, exclusive videos and features, and analysis from various sources, Yahoo! has yet again offered a unique variety that few others can.

As for the site that offers the very best of the original content, there are very few that can beat BBC’s attempts at BBC News Vote USA 2004 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/americas/2004/vote_usa_2004/default.stm Interactive maps, charts and drop down menus are here. Oh, and there’s a whole lot of analysis and news as well. Readers put in their two bit as well as can you in a special comments box.

But that’s enough of the serious stuff. For the more satairical and outright funny links, we start our journey with Too Stupid to Be President http://www.toostupidtobepresident.com/. Here are animations that poke fun at the George W. Bush administration with the help of a selection of humorous Top 11 lists. And believe me, there are a whole lot of these lists. Fun to read and equally funny to watch are the animations where the candidates go at each other and display their stupidity in a variety of ways.

Dancing Bush http://www.dancingbush.com/ is yet another innovative and funny site. With the help of a little cut and paste the guys here have presented President Bush in a way you may shave eldom seen him in. Moving and grooving, the US President is dancing, on the dance floor, with the lights and steps you’ve never seen him trod before. Watch Dubya as he struts his funky stuff.

And if you want to hear all that the president’s political idiosyncrasies then click to DubyaSpeak at http://www.dubyaspeak.com/. The people here have gone to great lengths in recording the damage that the President has caused himself, courtesy of his big fat mouth. You can even order a Dubya Audio CD here that has at least 50 tracks of these all time classics. More of the silly stupid rants are available at President Moron http://www.presidentmoron.com/. News, images and Bushisms dot the scene where it’s all about President Bush, or as the web site likes to call him, President Moron (hey, they said it!).

With President Bush hogging so much of the limelight on the web, we desperately looked for a site that was equally as nasty about his main challenger, Senator Kerry. And you know what, we did manage to find one. KerrySucks http://www.kerrysucks.com/ is all about being anti-Kerry and anti-Edwards. In fact watch Senator Edwards in the video of I’m Too Sexy for my Hair video. But you know what, it’s nowhere near the stuff that’s about Bush on the web.

One anti-Bush site that is really fun is George Bush Speechwriter http://www.actofme.co.uk/bush_speech/bushspeechwriter.html. Here you can create a whole new speech in the President’s own voice and words. Just use the mouse to drag and drop words and phrases from a bank of words on the right. Rearrange the words and click play. It is really fun to hear Bush twist his own words, something that he’s been doing a lot lately.

With so much being said about the man in the White House, wouldn’t it be fun to know where this man really comes from? So, welcome to Curious GWB http://home.nyc.rr.com/jadedem/gw1.html a series of images and cartoon that take you through Bush’s super rich beginnings and take you to his eventually capture ... I mean victory at the White House. With so many people showing a dislike for President Bush, it seems like the cats didn’t want to be left out of the fun as well. So here they are, cats that hate George W. Bush at http://www.catshatebush.com/. And if cats can do, then dogs certainly can. So, please welcome the dogs hate Bush site http://dogshatebush.com/. This is certainly intellectually stimulating, isn’t it?

Back to the more serious stuff, did you know that it aren’t the people who elect the President of the United States? At times, it are the members of the Congress and the Senate who decide who will be the boss at the White House. And for more details of the happenings, click to Wikipedia: Electoral College http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Electoral_College. This site examines how the US Electoral College works, its history, and looks at how electoral votes are cast and allocated.

Another interesting site is the FactCheck http://www.factcheck.org/ a nonpartisan site that monitors the factual accuracy of what is said by US political players. Presented by the Annenberg Public Policy Centre of the University of Pennsylvania, this is actually a good fact filled site. And once when you’re through with this, click to The Buying of the President http://www.publicintegrity.org/bop2004/. The people here really take time out to track the money behind the candidates. Hmmm, really would be interesting to note who buys his way to the President for how much, wouldn’t it?
