Mission migration

WITH reference to the lead article Mission migration (Oct 17), please spare your readers endless articles on adjusting to the West and, even more irritatingly, articles from visiting immigrants, highlighting yet again the hazards and horrors of living in Pakistan. Those of us living here hardly need imbecilic returnees to point fingers at what we experience in our very bones, every day.

I agree with the author that we as human beings are never satisfied with the surroundings we live in, but on the contrary there are also indigenous people who are spending their luxurious lives with peace and prosperity in their own country.

Nevertheless, I believe that the greatest gift with which we are endowed by God is the spirit and ability of hardworking, endeavouring and showing persistency on the goal which one wants to achieve. But unfortunately we tend to lose the sight of our goals. But the sleeping buffalo’s and vulgar people will remain identical everywhere!

Culture shock

WITH reference to the lead article, Culture shock (October 17), it is high time that the government took stern notice of the malice deep rooted in our system. But who to look forward to? The government itself is all but made up of a bunch of lousy heads sans wisdom and rampant in corruption. No bandit, tasked to police, would ever try himself for the many crimes he very conveniently committed or for that sake, still commits. So dear readers, do we kill our hopes?

Time to make a quick buck

WITH reference to the article, Time to make a quick buck (October 17), Muslims have been forbidden by the Quran and Hadith to indulge in profiteering, particularly on religious occasions. It is all the more pertinent in the month of Ramazan as the main objective of fasting is to abstain from all kinds of evil and inculcate self denial to resist any temptation for self gratification and gain. However it’s a pity that our business class indulges in the worst profiteering through all kind of tactics. God has clearly conveyed through his verses that such people are simply starving.

Our clergy keeps busy for hours narrating old and odd stories in their sermons and avoid hard hitting message on basic principles and hypocritical practices of business people and government functionaries. They are happy with their halwa/manda as it is conventionally described.

Death of a knowledge-seeker

WITH reference to the article Death of a knowledge -seeker (October 17), I appreciate the effort made by the writer; he has courageously highlighted the most important issue of the Pakistani society, where it is claimed that the state has done a lot regarding the improvement of education, particularly, free education for poor citizens of the country. But the facts have been kept hidden by the state craft. The gospel is that free education is not being imparted among most of the poor students in the country, that is why students like Nadia commit suicide; she lost her life in search of knowledge, therefore I would urge to the minister of education to take cemented measures and do something concrete for the poor students and save the future of Pakistan.
