THE wedding season is right around the corner and I am quite sure, preparations must now be entering their final phase. The menu must already have been finalized. So must have all the details from the function arrangements to the guest list and so on. And best of all, the photographer must already have been given the schedule of who to capture, and when to capture. But you know something, it’s sad that photos of a wedding in the family or even that of a close friend, can’t be shared with those living abroad. I mean, sure. You can e-mail a couple or courier a few. But sharing the entire proceedings would be tall order, don’t you think? Well, I think I have found a solution to sending my aunt living in the States, photos of my cousin’s wedding. And that’s with the help of online photo album web sites.
One of those sites is Web-a-Photo http://www.web-a-photo.com/. This free online photo album has software for image hosting, digital photo sharing, e-mailing editing and free online storage. The site even has a photo album software that helps in uploading, manage and display your digital photos by your convenience. The site is also offering high-quality digital printing services through the site. So, if somebody’s not made the transition to the digital world, this is a good place to be.
There’s even free desktop software to be uploaded. You can mail the photos that you’ve captured with your cellphone to the web site and have it uploaded to your storage there. Create your own free e-cards, order prints or simply order your own personalized mug or even a mouse pad. There seems to be much more than just photo hosting here.
And then there’s Yahoo! Here, at Yahoo! Photos photos.yahoo.com users are allowed to upload photos to the web, order prints and show albums to friends and family. In fact all that is being offered at Web-a-Photo is being offered here. But of course, Yahoo!’s greatest plus point has always been that most of us are anyway members of the web site. So, no hassle of registering or going into the nitty gritties of filling any form. And, most of your relatives would know what Yahoo! is!
The makers of PBase (two people called Slug and Emily) www.pbase.com conceived this site in July 1999 after observing ‘countless camera wielding people take cool photos but finding it difficult to share their work’. So here’s the site. And though the two concede that the idea is not unique by any means, it’s just their bumble attempt to help the camera wielding shooters display their works. With a claim of one million photos, I think they are helping a whole lot of people. Another online option available is Photobucket http://www.photobucket.com image hosting and online photo albums. The site provides free image hosting for live journals, blogs, message boards as well as Ebay and online photo albums; that’s of course where my needs are taken care of.
Simple to use, currently free accounts get 25Mg of space. Premium (that means those that are paid for) accounts have more features to delve into. Another way that these people help is if you are not sure how to resize the photo so as not to exceed the limit, these people will help resize it. Their ftp server is of invaluable help as well.
Funtigo www.funtigo.com allows you to create your online photo scrapbook within minutes! Design each album or a web page the way you want it: add text, backgrounds, clipart or animated text balloons; move or resize your pictures right on the page. Photo sharing has never been this flexible! In little over a year of operation, 40,000 users have created their own Funtigo web sites, attracting 400,000 unique visitors and six million pageviews a month.
The best thing about this site is that the folks here have made this place almost marketing free, because Funtigo is 100 per cent self-funded. No irritating ads on top of your wedding photo here. And all the good reviews from various members of the media along with the nifty layout, have helped us to believe that yes, this is indeed one good photo hosting.
Kapture-it online http://www.kapture-it.co.uk/ is your image hosting station, or so these people claim. It’s the place where you can create a free online photo album for image hosting or just to share your digital pictures, of fun, laughter, or even disaster with your friends and family or the world! The site’s basic account lets you store 50 images on the Kapture-it web site for free. You can of course choose to upgrade your account, an event that will help you host up to as much as 1500 images — a whopping 1Gb of storage space.
You can build your own photo library and archive your favourite pictures; it’s like carrying your photo albums with you, except you can view them anytime from anywhere you have access to a computer. The help section takes you through the create, edit, add effects and borders process, quite helpfully.
There, I am done now, not only with this piece but uploading pictures to the site thats care of my needs. What about you, are you ready to upload?
