By Meera Jamal

Well, now that the vacations are a month old, young folk like you must have run out of steam that you have for the summer vacations.

Most probably this is because of the hot summer and the sizzling sun that make playing outside sound like a bad idea. As for school homework, it is something to be done in the last days of the vacation, right? And if mom pushes you too much, I am quite sure we’ll hear an impulsive cry, “We have just gotten rid of loads of daily homework and now you want us to ruin our holidays too?” So, if you won’t play outside and aren’t too worried about the homework then what is there left for you to do? How about browsing through some very nice informative, educative as well as fun-filled web sites that you are definitely going to enjoy doing your homework with?

The Internet is full of lots of web sites designed for kids, they help you do your homework as well as have fun. And our first web site serves this purpose to the very end. It is Discoveryschool.com. The site is loaded with fun stuff like games, brainteasers, jokes and lot more. However, the thing that makes the site more appealing to kids are its creepy crafts, revolution recipes, unusual activities and iky experiments. Beside all this, you kids can research on any thing you wish to, in the search option and find out all about it. There are logic quests too that as intriguing as they are funny. If parents are having difficulty in persuading their children to finish their homework well before the deadline, as I am quite sure many are at the moment, then homework helpers on the site will make it easy for them. You can improve your geography, as it enables you get all your desired information about a particular place or country.

If you are weak in mathematics then there is a web site made just for the very reason. And that site is none other than Coolmath.com. As its name indicates the web site looks like an amusement park of math. One could find here everything in which math can be poured. But even if you have no interest whatsoever in math you will surely love the games that without much notice will help you improve your division, subtraction and multiplication abilities. There are different levels, which the children can choose according to age group or the standard that they study in.

But if you really enjoy solving math problems, then there is no age restriction at all, as the age group mentioned on it is 13 to 100. So go ahead and amaze your friends and teachers with your math skills.

Need a break from homework and for change, want to visit a web site that is only fun oriented? What better a web site for you then the Mugglenet.com, yes the very famous Harry Potter web site. It truly is the best Harry Potter web site as everything on the site revolves around its character and the magic world. There are lots of things for you to do here. For example if some kids, haven’t (which I doubt it) read any book of this series, then they can go through excerpts from book one to five.

Some smart kids have even pointed out mistakes in these books. And believe me there is not just one or two of them, there are loads of them. Quidditch is the most interesting game on the site. The site even allows you to open your very own e-mail account for free and receive a Harry Potter newsletter every week.

You can enrol yourself to the Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Witchcraft, and go through the procedure that Harry Potter went through when he was enrolled. Kids can even participate in fan contest, or even shop in the amazing Diagon Alley. The magic of the site is spell bounding for kids of all ages, specially the graphics of the site are pretty cool.

Girls if you think it’s a bit unfair to you as I haven’t mentioned till now a true girlie web site then I have just the thing for you. There is a website that will allow you to enjoy things you love to on the famous doll web site Barbie.com. Things like first choosing your favourite fairytale character then selecting clothes and accessories for it, are quite fun. You are likely to find things girls are interested in here like dreams and magic much, much more.

Mamamedia.com is the site that differs will all the above mentioned web sites. The graphics of the site make one feel truly that it’s the kid’s world. The site is totally fun oriented and allows kids to play games, read and participate jokes and even create different creatures. I tried to make one and I ended up making it look like a monster. If animals interest you and you want to know about different species of animals and their habitat then just click the animal option and get all you want about it. You don’t need to visit another web site in case if you want to send an e-card to your friend or loved one, you can choose it from here.

If your fun dose isn’t over yet then there is one more fun web site that would serve your taste; kidscom.com. There is a lot to do on this web site — making friends, travelling around the world, reading stories and cracking jokes etc.

In the end, the link I am going to tell you all is actually a directory that would line up all the web site that you might have interest in. Don’t believe me, just check out surfnetkids.com, and find out for yourself.

The site not only manages links of games and other fun involved web sites, but also of those that might help you in school. As here you can choose from web sites on mathematics, languages, science, geography, history and religion. Games are also separately listed category wise, so it’s not just fun but learning with fun.

Beside visiting these web sites you must also remember that if you keep pending your homework, then you would have to do all of it in last week or so of the vacation. Isn’t it better to do bit by bit daily then aching your arms and hand in the last week or so?
