WHERE there’s a will there is a way. And where there’s the Internet, there are sure to be sites that will help you achieve higher marks in your Matric, Intermediate or Graduate exams.
With this in mind I started searching the Net, for web sites that would be beneficial to the regular Pakistani student. Surprisingly, there were many skeptics in my way. “You won’t find any site”, was what my friends said. And, boy, did I prove them wrong!
Who says there aren’t any good sites for Pakistanis by Pakistanis on the Net? Especially for all of us appearing in our Board exams, for which frankly speaking regular educational web sites are not of much use. There are sites that have notes, tips and tricks, tuitions, tutors, guess-papers and much more, all just a click away and that too for free, unless of course if you decide to include the electricity bill!
Through my searches, my most favoured site turned out to be somewhat odd sounding, AwamiMarkaz www.awamimarkaz.com. A site built especially for students, it offers loads and loads of stuff. There are free MCQ’s, True and False, Fill in the Blanks, Tips Tricks, Test Taking Techniques and much more. Plus there are notes for classes 9 to 12 and BCom some of which can be surfed for free while others can be bought online without having to use credit cards as the administrators of the site offer, a COD (cash on delivery) system. In short, a very comprehensive web site.
Those of us who have appeared for our Board exams or are about to know what it’s like studying Urdu, also know that no matter what others might say, in Urdu, the one with the best notes wins. And good notes mean loads of ishaar quotes, verses etc. And the best source of getting them (after your grandparents) is Urdu Point www.urdupoint.com. Although not specifically an educational site, it provides detailed works and full versions of poetries of many poets. Its list really is inexhaustible which contains more than 50 poets (including Ghalib, Ibn-e-Insha, Mir Dard, Mir Taqi Mir, Faiz Ahmed Faiz) and as many poems of each. Plus there is an Urdu Adab (Urdu literature ) section as well.
While staying at the subject of Urdu, there is also, always Islamiat to take care of, the pattern of whose paper is somewhat similar to that of Urdu. Quotes and hadith, qurani ayats etc. can all be looked in at www.rahbar4u.com. So much so that this site also offers guess-papers that are always welcome. However, other than Islamiat, the site also offers the additional material, such as free online Physics and Chemistry tests. Now this is a trait that really differentiates this site from the rest.
A really helpful educational resource on the Net is www.citycollegiate.com. Although it is a web site of a coaching centre, yet it contains content for Learning Basic and Emerging Sciences. The link claims to be an award winning site for its comprehensive collection of note on Physics and Chemistry and all for class 10 to 12. There are also remarkable and clear diagrams that are part of the notes.
Another web site on the list is
www.apnapoint.com/notes/pakstudies which claims to be the most comprehensive Pakistani site providing educational learning material. Although it falls quite short of its claim, yet it does offer notes on Pakistan Studies, a subject that isn’t that well covered anywhere else. And though, they too are not as detailed as one would like them to be, something’s better than nothing!
And now come tuitions, something which we all love to hate, but are nevertheless indispensable, especially for students in colleges and high schools. And a big nightmare in this case is searching for the best tutor.
Making this process a bit easier are www.etaleem.com and www.tuitionspk.com which offer literally hundreds of tutors. Here you can key in your requirements and they will provide you a tutor who meets your needs. Plus if you think you have what it takes to make a teacher or tutor you can even submit your portfolio and wait for ladyluck to shine on you.
So done with notes, quotes and tutors, guess what comes after that?
Something whose mention is enough to sent shivers down the spine, yep you guessed it right, RESULTS. While there is no web site which can magically change or alter your result unless you work on your reading and writing and revision, but there are some that offer Boards results online, on time.
One such web site is www.resultspk.com. This link, unlike, others has a searchable engine where you can enter your Roll Number and check your result individually and quickly, rather than going through whole lists.
So what are you waiting for? Go on and make use of the plethora of useful information available on the Net. I am sure you won’t be disappointed. And if you find any of that useful, please don’t forget to say a small prayer of good luck for my exams too. Best of luck.
